CNC Plate Processing Planner
Position Summary
St. Peter Metal Works is seeking a detail-oriented CNC Plate Processing Planner to prepare plate-processing jobs for production.
This position will receive approved part drawings from the Plate Processing Supervisor and manage the remaining planning process. Responsibilities include creating SigmaNest work orders, reviewing available remnants, determining plate requirements, coordinating material needs with Purchasing, creating efficient nest plans, assembling complete traveler folders, and maintaining organized electronic job files.
The completed nest and traveler package will be handed off to production scheduling for machine assignment and job sequencing.
Primary Responsibilities
- Receive approved part drawings and job information from the Plate Processing Supervisor.
- Verify part numbers, drawing revisions, material grades, thicknesses, quantities, and due dates before creating the production package.
- Create and maintain work orders in SigmaNest.
- Review available plate remnants and identify suitable material for each job.
- Prioritize usable remnants before requesting new plate.
- Determine the remaining plate sizes and quantities needed to complete each job.
- Submit accurate material requirements to the Purchasing Department.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to confirm plate availability from approved vendors.
- Report material discrepancies or unavailable plate configurations before changing the material plan.
- Create efficient CNC nest plans using confirmed material.
- Prepare nests for the Messer plasma table or Mitsubishi laser according to approved job requirements and verified machine capabilities.
- Confirm that each nest matches the applicable work order, approved drawings, material, quantities, and revisions.
- Build and organize traveler folders for Plate Department jobs.
- Include required quantities, due dates, current drawings, and bend locations when applicable.
- Ensure traveler folders provide clear and accurate information for employees performing cutting, bending, and other plate-processing tasks.
- Update traveler folders when approved drawing revisions or authorized job changes are received.
- Maintain traceability between the job, drawings, material requirements, remnants, SigmaNest work order, nest plan, and traveler folder.
- Deliver complete production packages to the employee responsible for machine scheduling and job sequencing.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical job records.
- Escalate missing, conflicting, or unclear information before releasing a job for production.
Required Computer Skills:
- The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently on a computer and completing routine computer tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Navigate computer programs, folders, and files without continuous assistance.
- Create, name, rename, copy, move, and organize electronic folders.
- Save files in the correct folder and retrieve them when needed.
- Move and copy files between approved job folders and locations.
- Follow established file-naming and folder-organization procedures.
- Recognize common file types used for drawings, spreadsheets, documents, and CNC job information.
- Open, review, enter, and update information in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
- Save Excel files without overwriting or changing unrelated information.
- Compose, send, reply to, and forward emails.
- Attach files to emails and download received attachments.
- Organize and retrieve job-related emails and attachments.
- Accurately transfer information between drawings, emails, spreadsheets, job folders, and SigmaNest.
- Learn and use company software and electronic job-management procedures.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to identify part numbers, drawing revisions, quantities, material requirements, and due dates
- Strong attention to detail and document accuracy.
- Strong organizational and electronic file-management skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with supervision, Purchasing, production scheduling, QC, and machine operators.
- Ability to identify discrepancies and stop the planning process until the correct information is confirmed.
Preferred Experience
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings
- Working knowledge of plate grades, thicknesses, sheet sizes, and remnants.
- Experience with SigmaNest or comparable CNC nesting software.
- Experience with plate-processing or steel-fabrication operations.
- Familiarity with CNC plasma and laser cutting processes.
- Experience preparing manufacturing work orders, nest plans, routers, travelers, or production packages.
- Familiarity with remnant management and plate-material utilization.
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
