Summary:
Responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing home and socialization activities for home based Early Head Start (EHS) children and families. Responsible for maintaining smooth functioning of home-based program by working in a team with other EHS staff to ensure EHS families and children receive services and for supervising all volunteer activities in the home and center with assigned families. Responsible for displaying appropriate work habits, keeping necessary records, participating in training, upholding agency policies, practices, and procedures.
Primary duties:
- Per the Head Start Performance Standards, 1302.22c, maintain an average caseload of 10-12 families, providing each child enrolled in home visitation services: one home visit per week lasting a minimum of 90 minute and two group socialization activities per month, with a minimum 46 home visits completed and 22 socialization activities offered each year.
- Learn and use approved curriculum to deliver educational services in the context of home visit and socialization experiences, which reflect the specific cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children and their families.
- Promote and maintain safe and healthy learning environments. Provide age appropriate materials for home visits and socialization experiences.
- Integrate all of the Early Childhood Development components into each home visit and social experience to include education, health, and family services.
- Develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with families served, while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Work in partnership with parents to enhance their role as their child’s primary educator and emphasize the home as a primary learning environment with the social environments as secondary learning environments.
- In partnership with parents and primary caregivers, conduct screenings and on-going assessments of young children’s development.
- Collaborate with families to develop child and family goals, outlining the goals and steps taken to accomplish them on established forms.
- Assist families in identifying and accessing community resources that will help in promoting child development or strengthening the family unit, processing referrals and acting as a liaison and advocate between community resources and Early Childhood Development families as needed.
- Promote parental involvement in curriculum and activity planning, program governance, and the overall Early Head Start (EHS)/Head Start (HS) Program.
- Monitor and inform parents about their child’s development and health status, including medical follow-up needed, physical health, dental health, mental health, and nutritional intake.
- Advise the appropriate coordinator of health, family services, and educational concerns; work together to provide families with quality services, crisis intervention, referrals and if special services are needed under Part C, and resource referrals.
- Complete and maintain accurate records and documentation of all services provided, maintaining a working binder and child files in an organized manner.
- Enter data into the established database systems and provide complete and accurate reports following established program established and schedules.
- Follow policies and procedures regarding concerns about or reporting child abuse or neglect.
- Maintain confidentiality of family records and information.
- Attend staff meetings, family reviews, trainings, and other scheduled activities.
- Recruit and enroll new families and disseminate program information to local agencies and community partners.
- May be required to fill in and work in other capacities when needed, such as teacher aide, reception, and data entry.
Education:
Home-based CDA credential in Infant/Toddler, or Bachelor’s degree in field related to assisting children and families including Early Childhood Education, Human Development and Family Studies, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred.
