Position Summary
The Precision Coatings Specialist specializes in applying high quality coatings to marine components, automotive parts, metal detectors, pumps, and other metal equipment. This role combines precision paintwork with durable industrial coating applications, requiring versatility, strong attention to detail, and knowledge of multiple coating systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces using sanding, grinding, degreasing, masking, and cleaning
- Apply coatings including primers, basecoats, clear coats, epoxies and urethane
- Paint a variety of items including:
- Marine parts (rails, exhaust components, brackets, hardware)
- Automotive parts (headers, exhausts etc.. With Ceramkote)
- Metal detectors and sensitive equipment housings
- Industrial pumps and mechanical components
- Mix and match paints and industrial coatings to specifications (must be familiar with measuring parts A and B)
- Operate spray guns, powder coating systems, and other application tools.
- Ensure proper coating thickness, adhesion, and finish quality watching for defects
- Perform sanding, buffing, and polishing on finishes
- Follow coating system requirements for corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments
- Read and interpret work orders, technical data sheets (TDS), and safety data sheets (SDS)
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of paint booths, spray equipment and work areas
- Inspect finished products for defects and ensure they meet quality standards
- Follow all safety procedures for handling chemicals, coatings, and equipment
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in auto body painting, industrial painting, prefer both
- Knowledge of marine-grade coatings and corrosion protection systems (epoxy, urethane, powder)
- Ability to operate blasting equipment, spray systems, and curing ovens
- Strong attention to detail and ability to switch between cosmetic and protective coatings
- Strong understanding of surface preparation techniques
- Ability to read and follow coating specifications and procedures
- Understanding of surface prep standards for different metals (steel, aluminum, etc.)
- Attention to detail with a focus on quality and durability
- Strong knowledge of coating thickness measurement (mil gauges) and inspection processes
- Experience working with marine or corrosion-resistant coatings
- Knowledge of PPE and safe handling of paints, solvents, and coatings
- Physical ability to lift parts, stand for long periods, and work in shop condition
- Experience with powder coating and sandblasting operations (helpful, but not required)
- Forklift or lift equipment experience
- 5+ years of experience in a related field
Work Environment
- Shop-based (hot) environment including paint booths, blast rooms, and curing ovens
- Exposure to industrial coatings, dust, and fumes (with proper PPE required)
- Work involves handling small precision parts to larger industrial components
- Fast-paced setting with a mix of custom and production work
- Use of respirators, Tyvek suits, gloves, and protective gear required

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
