Medical Technician (Phlebotomist) – Augusta, ME
Location: VA Maine Medical Center – Togus, 1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330 Pay Rate: $25.00/hour Positions Available: 4 Contract Type: Federal (VHA) Assignment Period: 08/15/2026 – 08/14/2027
About the Role
We're hiring experienced Phlebotomists to join the laboratory team at the VA Maine Medical Center – Togus in Augusta, ME. This is a great opportunity for a skilled phlebotomy professional to work in a high-volume, patient-centered VA healthcare setting supporting inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department services.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient phlebotomy including inpatient ward rounds, inpatient and outpatient draws, Emergency Department (ED), STAT, ASAP, and timed draws
- Perform sample processing and send-out preparation
- Positively identify patients prior to sample collection and verify samples before testing or aliquoting
- Safeguard electronic and paper patient information
- Independently test, evaluate, document, and report patient testing and Quality Control (QC)
- Identify, document, and resolve any collection, processing, testing, or reporting issues
- Provide professional, patient-centered service at all times
Schedule
- 2 Day Shift positions: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- 2 Evening Shift positions: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
- Rotating weekends required (approximately 1–2 per month, may vary based on lab needs)
- Weekend day shift: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM, with a weekday off before and after the scheduled weekend
- Weekend evening shift: 1:30 PM – 9:00 PM, with a weekday off before and the Monday after off
- May include holidays and overtime as needed
- No on-call or standby duties required
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of recent phlebotomy experience
- Proof/copies of relevant licenses, certifications, and professional training (including diplomas and certificates)
- Minimum of 2 professional references with valid contact information (email and phone)
- Fluent in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English
- Technically proficient in phlebotomy and lab safety protocols
