Outreach Coordinator & Independent Living Coordinator
Location: Yuma and La Paz Counties, Arizona

Pay: $17.00 to $21.00 per hour (Based on experience and education)
About Us:
Services Maximizing Independent Living and Empowerment (SMILE) is a Center for Independent Living committed to promoting self determination, disability rights, and full community participation. We serve individuals with disabilities throughout Yuma and La Paz Counties.
Position Summary:
This dual role position combines community outreach and direct consumer support. The coordinator will lead education, advocacy, and outreach efforts while also delivering individualized services that promote independent living for people with disabilities.
Responsibilities:
Independent Living Services:
- Provide peer support, advocacy, information and referral, and skills training
- Assist individuals navigating housing, healthcare, and disability related resources
- Coordinate peer mentorship and leadership activities
- Facilitate transition planning and workshops
- Maintain accurate consumer service documentation
Community Outreach and Education:
- Represent SMILE at events, health fairs, and forums
- Present to schools, agencies, and civic groups
- Develop and share outreach materials in accessible formats
- Promote disability awareness and resources across underserved communities
Planning and Reporting:
- Conduct community needs assessments
- Assist in program evaluation and reporting
- Support logic model development and data collection
Compliance and Safety:
- Must obtain or hold a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Ensure safe, accessible transportation for community events
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, human services, psychology, or related field (preferred)
- Experience with or understanding of disability and independent living
- Valid Arizona driver’s license and proof of insurance
- Reliable personal vehicle
- Bilingual English and Spanish required
Skills and Competencies:
- Confident presenter with strong communication skills
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Comfortable using social media platforms for outreach and engagement
- Tech savvy with data entry and documentation practices
- Flexible, dependable, and comfortable working in diverse environments
- Willing to work occasional evenings or weekends
