Job Description
Position Title: Plumber (Service Technician)
Reports to: Plumbing Department Manager
Pay Classification: Non-Exempt
Pay Type: Hourly
Summary
Plumber will be responsible for all aspects of the installation, maintenance, inspection, operation and repair of the plumbing systems in our commercial and residential buildings.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reading and interpreting blueprints to assess or plan plumbing installations and layouts.
- Installing, maintaining and repairing plumbing systems and fixtures.
- Fitting and repairing various household appliances.
- Cutting, welding and assembling pipes, tubes, fittings, and fixtures.
- Inspecting and testing plumbing systems for safety, functionality, and code compliance.
- Handling customer queries and responding to call outs.
- Troubleshooting and resolving problems.
- Preparing cost estimates.
- Test plumbing and other installed fixtures to ensure proper functioning.
- Keep detailed notes and create work reports documenting projects.
- Confirm pipe system is air/watertight by performing pressure tests.
- Assembles fittings and valves for installation.
- Invoice customers via tablet and collect payments.
- Chooses plumbing material based on budget, location, and intended uses of building.
- Knowledge of tankless water heaters.
- Install supports for pipes, equipment, and fixtures prior to installation.
- Installing fittings and components above and in ground.
- Complies with all required safety, building code and inspection requirements.
· Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, and other instructions.
· Exercise functional supervision over assigned apprentice.
· Oversees and installs new plumbing, including pipes, valves, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, sinks, drinking fountains, hot water heaters, and a wide variety of other plumbing fixtures, facilities, and equipment.
· Supervises and performs repair of old plumbing, including fixtures and pipelines, clean and open traps, drains and other lines.
· Reviews the work of subordinate staff to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.
· Solders and repairs copper pipes.
· Oversees and reviews the preparation of work orders.
· Conducts estimates on time and materials required for jobs.
· Conducts preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures and systems.
Requirements and Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
· Valid driver’s license
· Must have 4 to 5 years of related experience or additional specialized training and/or certification.
· Reliable, detailed oriented, highly organized, and capable of handling several tasks.
· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work after hours, over weekends, and on public holidays with short or no notice.
· Must be insurable.
