SHELTER COORDINATOR

The House of Ruth, Inc. is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and dedicated professional to serve as our Shelter Coordinator.
The Shelter Coordinator plays an important role in the daily operation of the shelter and in providing quality services to women and children affected by domestic violence. This position provides direct client services, coordinates shelter programs, supervises shelter staff, and works with community partners to ensure clients receive the support and resources they need.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Shelter Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the shelter program and helping ensure a safe, supportive, and well-functioning environment for residents and their children.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, handling crisis situations, maintaining confidentiality, and working collaboratively with clients, staff, and community agencies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Services
· Provide case management, assessment, counseling, advocacy, and crisis intervention.
· Assist clients in accessing appropriate community resources.
· Provide or arrange transportation related to case management needs.
· Facilitate groups and educational sessions related to domestic violence.
· Maintain accurate client records, reports, and required documentation.
Shelter Operations
· Coordinate and supervise the shelter program and day-to-day activities.
· Respond to crisis situations and help resolve concerns involving staff and residents.
· Help ensure the shelter remains safe, stable, and welcoming.
· Coordinate with out-of-shelter staff regarding clients’ ongoing needs and legal concerns.
· Participate in on-call and holiday rotations as needed.
Supervision & Administration
· Supervise shelter staff, volunteers, and field-placement students.
· Assist with staff and volunteer training.
· Maintain records and assist with required program reporting.
· Develop and implement programs as needs are identified.
· Communicate program needs, concerns, and progress to agency leadership.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a related human-services field required.
· Experience in human services or working with survivors of domestic violence preferred.
· Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
· Reliable personal vehicle, liability insurance, and willingness to use your vehicle for work-related duties.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to remain calm, responsible, and self-motivated.
· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
· Strong non-judgmental listening skills.
· Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence.
· Ability to work effectively with clients, staff, and community resources.
SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY
This position requires flexibility based on the needs of the agency.
The Shelter Coordinator may be required to work: Weekends Holidays Other shifts as needed On-call rotations
Employment Status: Exempt
