About the Role
We’re looking for a dependable, experienced Mobile Diesel Truck & Trailer Mechanic to keep commercial equipment safe, compliant, and on the road. This is a hands-on field service role supporting the shop in Cedar Rapids.
A company-provided mobile service vehicle will be supplied to perform field repairs. Work includes preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs performed at customer locations, roadside, and in-shop. If you take pride in clean work, accurate troubleshooting, and strong customer communication, you’ll fit in well here.
What You’ll Do
- Perform PM services on tractors and trailers at customer locations (DOT items, fluids, filters, brakes, lights, tires, etc.).
- Diagnose and repair diesel and chassis issues, including air systems, brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, and drivability concerns.
- Handle service calls efficiently—assess the problem, communicate a repair plan, and complete work safely and correctly.
- Complete pre-trip/post-trip and safety inspections to ensure road-ready equipment.
- Use diagnostic tools and standard mobile and shop equipment to troubleshoot and confirm repairs.
- Maintain clean, detailed service documentation (work performed, parts used, recommendations, and follow-ups).
- Coordinate with customer dispatch/maintenance leadership to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
- Provide professional, customer-focused communication on-site—answer questions and explain repairs in plain language.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain organized service vehicle/work area.
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years (preferred) experience repairing heavy-duty trucks and/or trailers (more experience welcomed).
- Solid understanding of diesel systems and commercial truck/trailer components.
- Strong skills in brakes, suspension, electrical, and air systems diagnostics and repair.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a mobile environment.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, especially around safety-related repairs and documentation.
- Reliable attendance, good judgment, and a “fix it right” mindset.
Preferred (Not Required)
- CDL
- Forklift certification
- DOT inspection knowledge/experience
- Experience with fleet PM programs and service writing
