University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men is seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Studies Teacher to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will inspire students to think critically about history, society, and civic engagement while fostering a positive and engaging classroom culture.
- Deliver engaging Social Studies instruction aligned with curriculum standards

Plan and implement lessons that meet diverse student needs, interests, and abilities

Foster critical thinking, inquiry, and civic awareness

Create a classroom environment that is safe, structured, and conducive to learning

Set clear learning objectives and communicate expectations to students

Use a variety of instructional strategies and materials to support student success

Assess student progress regularly and provide timely feedback and reports

Identify student learning needs and collaborate with support staff as necessary

Support students’ academic and social-emotional development

Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues

Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices and student outcomes

Maintain classroom management and uphold school policies and expectations

Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school initiatives

Comply with New York State Education Department regulations

Perform additional duties as assigned
Required:
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
-
Eligibility for New York State teacher certification in Social Studies (certification not required at hire but must be pursued)

Strong content knowledge in Social Studies
Preferred:
-
1–2 years of experience working with students in grades 6–12, particularly in urban school settings
-
Experience teaching middle or high school Social Studies
- Commitment to the school’s mission and vision, including anti-racist practices

Passion for supporting students’ academic and social-emotional growth

Ability to build a positive, inclusive classroom culture

Strong instructional and classroom management skills

Salary Range: $48,500 – $53,000 (based on experience, education, and qualifications)
