We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Specialist to support a global software client with the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide emergency preparedness, occupational health, and safety programs across the United States and Canada. This position is ideal for a proactive EHS professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to drive operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and emergency readiness.
What You'll Do
As the Health and Safety Specialist embedded full-time at our client you will support a variety of health and safety initiatives, including emergency response planning, regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, and program administration. Responsibilities include:
Emergency Response & Preparedness

Coordinate and administer Emergency Response Team (ERT) programs across multiple sites to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.

Deliver and coordinate emergency response training, including onboarding new trainers through Train-the-Trainer programs.

Monitor ERT and floor warden staffing levels and develop action plans to address gaps in emergency preparedness.

Prepare and present monthly program status reports to regional leadership, including key performance indicators, identified risks, and recommended corrective actions.

Partner with regional leaders to ensure all locations maintain the required number of ERT members and Floor Wardens.

Coordinate and support emergency drills across multiple sites to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
First Aid & CPR Program Management

Coordinate and support regional First Aid and CPR certification courses throughout the United States and Canada.

Collaborate with training providers and site leadership to maintain employee certification requirements.
Health & Safety Engagement
-
Review inspection findings from regional sites and monitor completion of corrective actions.

Facilitate recurring regional Health & Safety Champion meetings to share best practices, communicate emerging risks, and present health and safety topics relevant to ongoing operations.

Support health and safety compliance for onsite events including but not limited to evaluation of and compliance with local fire code, building requirements, assembly permits, emergency plans, etc.

Foster employee engagement and strengthen regional safety culture through effective communication and collaboration.
Emergency Equipment & Resource Management

Coordinate emergency response equipment distribution initiatives, including evacuation go bag deployment and inventory management.

Ensure emergency equipment remains available, maintained, and aligned with organizational standards.
Risk Assessments

Conduct annual culinary/food safety and workplace risk assessments.

Evaluate operational hazards and develop practical recommendations to reduce risk and improve workplace safety.
Case Management & Emergency Support

Provide initial and follow-up support to employees affected by workplace incidents or emergency situations.

Support organizational response efforts during hurricanes, wildfires, severe weather events, and other business continuity incidents.

Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure continuity of care and adherence to company health and safety protocols.
Site Inspections

Perform health and safety inspections during site visits and document findings, observations, and recommended corrective actions.

Verify implementation of corrective measures and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance
-
Maintain and update legal compliance registers for the United States.

Coordinate and update legal compliance register for Canada.
-
Monitor applicable regulatory requirements and communicate changes impacting business operations.

Support compliance audits and documentation management.
Additional Responsibilities

Lead or support special projects and strategic health and safety initiatives as assigned.

Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase program effectiveness, and enhance organizational resilience.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

1-5 years of experience managing corporate health, safety, emergency preparedness, or business continuity programs.

Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and emergency response planning requirements.
-
Experience coordinating Emergency Response Teams, emergency drills, and employee training programs.
-
Familiarity with incident management, risk assessments, inspections, and corrective action tracking.

Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all organizational levels.

Experience developing reports, presenting program metrics, and influencing continuous improvement initiatives.
-
Proficiency with Slack and Google platform applications and health and safety management systems.
-
Ability to travel periodically to additional client or office locations throughout North America.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), or similar professional certification.

First Aid/CPR Instructor certification.
-
Working knowledge of CAL/OSHA and IL OSHA regulations and emergency response planning requirements.
-
Experience supporting geographically dispersed operations across the United States and Canada.

Experience maintaining legal compliance registers and conducting regulatory assessments.
-
Familiarity with business continuity planning, crisis management, and emergency operations.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $70,000-$85,000. Compensation will vary depending on the applicant’s job-related knowledge and skills, education, and work experience.
