Job Summary
An experienced Medical Technologist (MT) / Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) for a 13-week travel assignment in our busy clinical laboratory. This position is ideal for a highly experienced laboratory professional who can work independently in a fast-paced hospital environment and is immediately proficient with hematology, differentials, and complex specimens.
The laboratory supports a high-volume hospital environment, including large neonatal units, and requires a technologist who can accurately manage complex and challenging specimens with minimal training.
Responsibilities
- Perform clinical laboratory testing in a high-volume hospital laboratory.
- Perform hematology testing and accurate manual and automated differentials.
- Operate and troubleshoot Sysmex hematology systems.
- Utilize CellaVision for differential review and abnormal cell identification.
- Evaluate complex specimens, including turbid specimens, platelet clumps, and abnormal cell findings.
- Recognize and appropriately handle abnormal laboratory results and specimens.
- Maintain accuracy and efficiency while working in a fast-paced core laboratory.
- Follow laboratory procedures, quality-control standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Document testing and results accurately within the laboratory information system.
- Collaborate effectively with laboratory and clinical staff.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in the Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist specialty.
- Must be a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) candidates will not be considered.
- Current certification through ASCP, AMT, or AAB required.
- Cerner experience required.
- Recent, hands-on hematology experience required.
- Experience with Sysmex and CellaVision required.
- Recent experience in a busy, high-volume core laboratory strongly preferred.
- Experience in a large hospital laboratory, ideally 600+ beds, strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated competency performing accurate differentials, including neonatal and abnormal cell specimens.

The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience with Sysmex and CellaVision systems and is comfortable managing challenging specimens, including platelet clumps, turbid samples, and abnormal cell findings.
Candidates should be confident working independently, maintaining accuracy under pressure, and handling the pace and complexity of a large hospital laboratory
