Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team in providing exceptional care to individuals with developmental disabilities in a home and community setting. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact in people's lives and are committed to delivering personalized care that promotes independence, dignity, and well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support to individuals with developmental disabilities, focusing on their physical, emotional, and psychological needs.
- Assist with daily living tasks, including meal preparation, medication administration, and personal care.
- Support Individual Support Plans by working with individuals to meet personal goals.
- Foster a safe and nurturing environment that encourages social interaction and community engagement.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other support staff to ensure seamless care transitions.
- Utilize various systems to document client information, track medication, and maintain accurate records.
- Drive clients to appointments, social events, and other activities as needed.
- Provide support in scheduling and attending appointments and assist with memory-related tasks such as calendaring and scheduling.
- Promote independence and self-advocacy through skill-building and empowerment strategies.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of needs and adapt to changing needs and priorities.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, neurodivergence or long-term care needs is preferable but not necessary.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for those who will transport individuals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Able to effectively use computer application and a smart phone.
- Have access to a computer or is willing to use a computer at our office for data entry and notes.
- Comfortable with meal preparation and assistance with daily living tasks.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as necessary (though unlikely unless specifically scheduled).
- Willingness to support more than one individual.
