Position Title: Business Developer – Commercial Landscape
Location: Jacksonville, FL
Company Overview: Our client is an established, owner-operated commercial landscape company with deep roots in the Jacksonville market. The Jacksonville branch is currently producing approximately $6M in annual revenue and is part of a growing multi-branch organization that recently expanded into Memphis, with additional openings across other markets. They operate on a fully integrated Aspire platform, run a disciplined field operation, and offer direct ownership involvement on major opportunities. The company has built its reputation on speed, responsiveness, and a strong commitment to customer retention — a stated contrast to the slower, multi-layered approval processes typical of larger corporate competitors.
Position Overview: This is a growth hire created by sales expansion within the Jacksonville branch. The Business Developer will work alongside one existing BD on the team, with territory split based on existing strengths and relationships. The new hire will lean into office parks, Class A business parks, and property management companies across the Jacksonville commercial market. The right candidate brings commercial landscape sales experience, the discipline to estimate their own work in Aspire, and a proven ability to produce in a true hunter role with direct owner support on the deals that matter.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and grow a commercial book of business across office parks, Class A business parks, property management companies, and other commercial accounts in the Jacksonville market
- Sell across the full service line, including maintenance, enhancements, fertilization, irrigation and water management, and tree care — packaging multiple services into single contracts where the opportunity exists
- Estimate and self-generate proposals within Aspire, leveraging the integrated platform for bid tracking and contract management
- Conduct daily field activity, including cold calls, on-site appointments, and property walks, with a target of 20–25 contacts and approximately 20 emails per day
- Report to the Jacksonville branch each morning at 8:00 AM to check in with operations and the branch manager before heading out into the territory
- Maintain disciplined follow-up cadence — never leave a meeting without setting the next meeting
- Coordinate with the branch on territory split and account assignments to ensure clean handoffs and healthy internal competition with the existing BD
- Stay involved post-sale to ensure smooth account transitions, flag retention risks early, and partner with operations to protect customer relationships
- Participate in weekly check-ins with the Regional Sales Manager (based in Tampa) and ongoing day-to-day communication with the company president
- Represent Duval professionally with BOMA, IFMA, or other industry organizations as needed (company-paid memberships available)
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Proven track record of producing in a commercial landscape business development or outside sales role, with sales metrics that match what is presented on the resume
- Demonstrated proficiency with Aspire (or comparable landscape ERP/CRM platforms; Salesforce experience may be considered)
- Self-starter capable of hitting the ground running without hand-holding and running a high-activity territory independently
- Strong follow-up discipline — consistently books the next meeting before leaving the current one
- Clean driving record; valid driver’s license (car allowance provided in lieu of a company vehicle)
- Must reside within the Jacksonville market or maintain a realistic daily commute to the 7011 Business Park branch
- Ability to report to the branch by 8:00 AM each morning before heading into the territory
Preferred
- Prior experience selling commercial landscape services in the Jacksonville market with existing local industry relationships
- Track record of selling $1M+ annually in commercial landscape contracts, with a history of growth into the $2M–$3M range
- Experience in packaging full-service contracts across maintenance, enhancements, fertilization, irrigation, and tree care
- Comfort working directly with property managers, facility contacts, and decision-makers at Class A business parks and office parks
- Experience in an owner-operated or mid-size landscape organization with direct access to ownership on major deals
