Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, incorporating innovative educational technology and instructional design principles.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional modifications to accommodate students with disabilities, including those with developmental disabilities, autism, visual impairments, or other special needs.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive behavior management strategies, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, assessment strategies, and individualized instruction plans such as IEPs (Individualized Education Programs).
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to discuss student progress, behavioral health, and educational goals.
- Utilize evidence-based practices such as speech therapy techniques, behavioral therapy, music therapy, or applied behavior analysis when appropriate to enhance learning outcomes.
- Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and tutoring sessions; adjust instructional approaches accordingly.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, educational compliance regulations, and IEP development processes.
- Experience working with children with diverse needs including those with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.
- Proficiency in learning technology tools and educational software for lesson planning and instructional delivery.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues, parents, and support staff.
- Expertise in classroom management and behavior management strategies tailored for students with disabilities.
- Background in literacy education, math instruction, early childhood education, preschool or toddler care, and Montessori or preschool methodologies.
- Ability to design individualized instruction plans that incorporate instructional modifications and accommodations for students with disabilities.
