Position Summary
The Skilled Laborer performs a variety of construction tasks supporting both civil infrastructure projects and vertical building construction in the Tampa/Orlando/Gainesville area and surrounding areas. Prior experience on a pipe crew highly valued. This position requires experience working with hand and power tools, site preparation, material handling, equipment operation assistance, concrete work, grading, excavation support, and general construction activities. The Skilled Laborer plays a key role in maintaining productivity, quality, and safety on construction sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general construction labor activities on civil and commercial/residential building projects.
- Assist with site preparation, excavation, grading, trenching, and backfilling operations.
- Install and maintain erosion control measures, utilities, drainage systems, and site infrastructure.
- Support concrete operations including forming, reinforcing, pouring, finishing, and curing.
- Assist with foundation work, structural construction, framing, and building envelope installation.
- Load, unload, transport, and organize construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist equipment operators, carpenters, concrete crews, utility crews, and other trades as needed.
- Read and interpret basic construction plans, drawings, specifications, and grade stakes.
- Perform demolition, cleanup, and site maintenance activities.
- Identify and report safety hazards, equipment issues, and quality concerns.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with company safety standards.
- Follow all company policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of construction experience in civil construction, building construction, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
- Ability to read tape measures and perform basic construction calculations.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and OSHA standards.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with concrete, grading, pipe, utilities, earthwork, framing, or structural construction.
- Equipment operation experience (skid steer, mini excavator, roller, forklift, etc.).
- OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour certification.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Experience reading blueprints and construction drawings.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in physically demanding environments for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work at heights, in trenches, and around active construction equipment while following all safety protocols.
Work Environment
- Construction sites including commercial buildings, industrial facilities, roadways, utility installations, site development projects, and other civil infrastructure projects.
- Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heavy equipment, and changing weather conditions.
- Overtime, weekend work, and travel may be required based on project needs.

This position is responsible for supporting the successful completion of civil and vertical construction projects while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour
