Are you passionate about helping students achieve their college dreams? Young Scholars is seeking an experienced, motivated, and student-centered College Admissions Counselor to join our growing team in San Marino, California.
This is an in-person position only. We are looking for someone who enjoys working closely with students and families while guiding them through every step of the college admissions process.
Position Overview
As a College Admissions Counselor, you will mentor middle and high school students in building competitive college applications. You will provide personalized guidance on academic planning, extracurricular involvement, college selection, application strategy, essays, and interviews while supporting families throughout the admissions journey.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one college admissions counseling for students in grades 8–12.
- Develop personalized college application strategies based on each student's academic background, interests, and goals.
- Guide students through the Common App, UC application, Coalition Application, and other college application platforms.
- Assist students with brainstorming, outlining, and refining personal statements, supplemental essays, and scholarship essays.
- Help students build balanced college lists, including reach, target, and safety schools.
- Advise students on extracurricular planning, leadership development, research opportunities, internships, volunteer work, and summer programs.
- Monitor student progress and create timelines to ensure application deadlines are met.
- Prepare students for college interviews.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and admissions strategies.
- Stay informed about admissions trends, standardized testing policies, and changes in college admissions.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and college planning events hosted by Young Scholars.
- Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and administrative staff to support student success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in college admissions counseling, college advising, high school counseling, or admissions preferred.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. college admissions, including UC, CSU, Common App, and private universities.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, especially for college essays.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Passion for mentoring students and working with families.
- Ability to manage multiple students and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience helping students gain admission to selective colleges and universities.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
