Green Acres Veterinary Center is looking for a rockstar Veterinary Assistant (VA) Manager to lead and oversee our Veterinary Assistant team. We are seeking a motivated, organized, and compassionate leader who can effectively manage people, maintain high hospital standards, and help create an exceptional experience for our clients, patients, and team.
While the VA Manager typically works during the day, the manager should have flexibility in their schedule and be willing to work evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight shifts when necessary.
Position Overview
The VA Manager is responsible for supervising, directing, planning, and coordinating a variety of support functions for the Buffalo Veterinary Group hospitals. This position oversees the Veterinary Assistant department and plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, efficient, and welcoming hospital environment.
The VA Manager ensures that our facilities and grounds are well maintained, our patients receive a high standard of care and comfort, and our team has the tools, support, and direction needed to perform their jobs effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead monthly Veterinary Assistant staff meetings and gather relevant information from support staff and the Practice Manager to address with the team.
- Ensure a safe, sanitary, organized, and visually appealing work environment and hospital grounds through effective delegation and, when appropriate, coordination with outside contractors.
- Ensure housekeeping, maintenance, and patient-care practices meet established hospital standards and, when possible, the standards and guidelines of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).
- Oversee and participate in the promotion of hospital products and services, demonstrating strong technical knowledge and effective salesmanship.
- Oversee communication, performance, and day-to-day operations of the Veterinary Assistant team.
- Provide guidance, advice, and solutions related to hospital policies, protocols, procedures, and services.
- Address and resolve client and team conflicts and respond appropriately to informal employee concerns and complaints.
- Review patient charts for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate documentation by the Veterinary Assistant team.
- Provide feedback and recommendations to practice owners, managers, and administration regarding hospital operations, profitability, staffing needs, employee advancement, reassignments, scheduling, and other personnel matters affecting the VA team.
- Develop and implement protocols and policies designed to improve efficiency, workflow, teamwork, and productivity.
- Recruit, interview, and schedule Veterinary Assistant support staff as needed.
- Direct and facilitate on-the-job training to develop and strengthen employee skills.
- Ensure the Veterinary Assistant team consistently demonstrates and upholds the organization's five core values.
- Conduct employee performance appraisals and communicate performance expectations and progress.
- Work with employees on corrective measures and performance improvement when necessary.
- Develop and maintain staff incentives and foster effective communication between employees and management.
- Lead by example and perform all responsibilities in accordance with the Buffalo Veterinary Group core values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
