Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO)/Deputy Town Clerk to lead our organization’s financial planning, management, and reporting functions. This pivotal role requires a forward-thinking leader with a comprehensive understanding of financial concepts, industry regulations, and strategic management to drive sustainable growth and operational excellence. As CFO/Deputy Town Clerk, you will oversee all financial activities, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide critical insights to support executive decision-making. You will assist the Town Clerk in their duties and responsibilities of Town Clerk. Your energetic leadership will inspire teams and foster a culture of fiscal responsibility and innovation.
Duties
- Develop and implement robust financial strategies aligned with the organization’s long-term goals, including revenue management, cost control, and risk analysis.
- Oversee corporate accounting functions, ensuring adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), IAS (International Accounting Standards), GASB (Government Accounting Standards Board) and other relevant regulations.
- Manage treasury functions such as cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and liquidity management to optimize financial resources.
- Lead financial reporting efforts by preparing accurate financial statements, interpreting complex financial reports, and ensuring compliance with regulatory reporting requirements including SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) and ASC 606 standards.
- Drive financial projection model development for strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis to support business growth initiatives.
- Supervise risk management activities by conducting thorough risk analysis and implementing mitigation strategies across operational and financial domains.
- Oversee mergers & acquisitions processes, including due diligence, valuation, negotiation, and integration to expand organizational capabilities.
- Lead fundraising efforts for business development opportunities while managing profit & loss statements to ensure fiscal health.
- Manage finance team operations by providing leadership in financial software systems implementation, staff development, and performance management.
Skills
- Extensive experience in finance directorship roles with proven success in strategic planning and corporate finance management.
- Deep knowledge of accounting standards such as GAAP, GASB, IFRS, IAS, ASC 606, COSO frameworks for internal controls, and governmental accounting practices.
- Expertise in SOX compliance, regulatory reporting requirements, tax accounting, cost accounting, supply chain finance, and expense management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial statements and develop actionable insights through financial modeling and analysis skills.
- Exceptional negotiation abilities combined with experience in business development and fundraising for organizational growth initiatives.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing finance teams with a focus on strategic management, supervision experience, and fostering a collaborative environment.
- Proficiency with advanced financial software systems; familiarity with risk management tools; expertise in financial forecasting analysis; understanding of industry-specific regulations governing financial operations.
- Excellent communication skills for clear financial report writing and interpretation tailored to diverse audiences including senior leadership and external stakeholders.
