General Description:
Under the direction of the Service Planning Manager, the Passenger Facilities Technician conducts routine inspections and repairs of DASH transit passenger facilities (such as bus stops and transit centers) ensuring they meet quality standards. This position ensures that bus stops are safe, functional, and well-maintained for the convenience of passengers and the quality operation of the DASH transit system. They coordinate with the appropriate department or City staff to ensure the upkeep and functionality of bus stop facilities.
This position also provides administrative support to the Planning department in other functional areas such as route/service planning, service analyses, performance data validation, schedule development, operator bid process, survey activities, bus stop sign assembly and installation, and other field work, as needed.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure DASH bus passenger facilities prioritize safety, accessibility, equity, and efficiency.

Manage a citywide bus stop database, including photos and signage inventory.

Assist in developing and maintaining inspection and maintenance programs for bus stop facilities.

Repair or replace damaged components like benches, shelters, signage, poles, lighting, and trash receptacles; collaborate with City staff as needed.

Remove graffiti, stickers, and defacements from bus stop structures; coordinate with City staff for resolution.

Identify and address safety hazards, structural issues, cleanliness, and sanitation problems at bus stops or transit centers; report to City personnel.

Conduct regular field checks of bus stops, identify hazards and maintenance issues, and work with city staff to resolve deficiencies and support improvements.

Administer the temporary signage program for bus stop suspensions and relocations during service disruptions, including planning, installation, monitoring, and removal of signs.

Ensure bus stops and transit centers comply with accessibility standards, including wheelchair ramps.

Maintain clean and debris-free areas around bus stops.

Ensure accurate, legible, and properly positioned bus stop and transit center signage.

Update schedule information and route maps as required.

Check and maintain lighting fixtures for adequate evening and night visibility; collaborate with City staff for maintenance.

Assist in reviewing development plans and identifying potential conflicts with bus stops and service.

Respond to bus stop complaints as directed by the Customer Service department.

Collect planning data and metrics, including ride checks, passenger surveys, ITS checks, and other field observations.

Assist in the installation, inspection, and maintenance of real-time information displays, lighting, and other bus stop amenities as necessary.

Participate in DASH events, such as pop-up outreach events, surveys, community meetings, as needed.

Regularly attend and participate in internal team meetings, trainings, and mandatory Company staff meetings.

Cooperatively and efficiently perform other assigned duties and tasks.

- Extended periods of time working in outdoor environment and traveling between local bus and transit facilities. Ability to move comfortably throughout various bus stop facilities in DASH service area.

Must be able to navigate locally throughout the City of Alexandria.
- Lift moderate loads at times such as bus stop poles, digital signs, and supplies (<100 lbs.).
Additional/Miscellaneous/Special Requirements:

Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to drive standard vehicles like pick-up trucks and SUVs.
Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
- Experience with or strong interest in learning about public transportation.

Proven ability to use hand and power tools in a safe manner.
- Minimum of six (6) to twelve (12) months of experience with basic administrative functions in a professional setting preferred, but not required.
