Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Arrupe Center for Community Service and Social Responsibility, the Coordinator of Student Basic Needs and Community Outreach manages student basic needs initiatives, including coordination and implementation of the day-to-day operations of Iggy’s Market, the university’s basic needs hub. The position develops and implements programs, outreach strategies, and partnerships that support student well-being, belonging, and success while advancing the university’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. Working collaboratively with students, campus partners, and community organizations, the coordinator enhances access to essential resources and meaningful opportunities for service and engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Operations: Support daily operations and assessment of Iggy’s Market, Marquette’s basic needs hub, and related initiatives. Supports events and programming, such as food drives, donations, food recovery efforts, and student access. Develops and implements initiatives that address food insecurity and support student persistence, retention, and success. Serve as a primary resource for students experiencing food insecurity and other basic needs challenges, ensuring confidentiality and student-centered care.
Community Outreach, Partnerships & Resource Development: Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, food banks, local businesses, alumni, and campus departments to support students’ basic needs and community engagement. Coordinate food recovery initiatives, monthly donation drives, and resource collection efforts (including Move Out for Hunger) that expand support for students experiencing basic needs insecurity. Develop and implement outreach strategies, educational programs, workshops, presentations, and awareness campaigns that promote available resources, reduce stigma, and increase student utilization of services.
Supervision: Responsible for the supervision of student employees, which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student’s assignment, etc. Provides directions to volunteers by recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, and developing volunteers. Fosters leadership development, accountability, and exceptional customer service while ensuring efficient program operations.
Community Programming & Transportation Operations: Coordinates and supports community service, civic engagement, and social responsibility initiatives sponsored by the Arrupe Center, including campus-wide service events, volunteer opportunities, and community partner engagements. Oversee the Center’s community service van fleet, including scheduling, driver compliance, maintenance coordination, risk management procedures, collaboration with university partners, and supporting transportation logistics.
Budgets, Analysis & Reporting: Collects and analyzes program data, prepares reports, monitors participation and results, using assessment findings to inform continuous improvements and future planning decisions. Assists with budgeting and purchasing, overseeing inventory, and ordering supplies as needed. Oversee donations and in-kind contributions.
Marketing & Communication: Develops promotional materials, website content, social media communications, student-facing newsletters, and impacts stories that highlight program outcomes, student engagement, and opportunities for involvement and support.
Division Support & Advocacy: Collaborates and partners within the division, contributing to planning and implementing initiatives. Contributes to the division’s strategic plan outcomes. Represents the division through participation in university-wide committees and workgroups. Serves as a university conduct administrator when needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Nonprofit Leadership, Sociology, Social Work, Public Health, Human Services, Community Development, Education, Urban Studies, or related field
- A minimum of one year of experience.
- Experience working in higher education, student affairs, community engagement, basic needs initiatives, nonprofit organizations, or related settings.
- Demonstrated ability to support and advise students, develop educational programs and outreach initiatives, and foster student engagement, well-being, leadership, and social responsibility.
- Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities while operating within university policies, procedures, and program guidelines.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate complex operations, manage projects, supervise student employees and volunteers, and meet multiple deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience building collaborative relationships with community-based organizations, campus partners, and diverse stakeholders to advance shared goals and student success.
- Ability to collect, track, analyze, and report program data to assess outcomes and inform decision-making. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, databases, online forms, assessment tools, and student engagement software.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate programs, events, and outreach efforts, including occasional evening and weekend commitments to support student needs and community engagement activities.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Nonprofit Leadership, Sociology, Social Work, Public Health, Human Services, Community Development, Education, Urban Studies, or related field
- Ability to drive community service vehicles by having an active driver’s license in good standing.
- FoodSafe certification.
- Experience managing website content, digital communications, or content management systems (CMS).
- Experience with survey, assessment, and data collection platforms such as Qualtrics.
- Experience developing marketing, outreach, or educational materials using digital communication tools.
- Spanish language proficiency or the ability to communicate effectively with multilingual populations.
