Forester / Ranch Hand Position Summary
Amistad Ranch is seeking an experienced and motivated Forester / Ranch Hand to assist with the hands-on management and improvement of approximately 4,000 acres of private ranch and wildlife habitat. The successful candidate will play a key role in forestry operations, habitat enhancement, land management, and general ranch maintenance.
This position is primarily forestry-focused and requires a practical individual capable of working independently in the field while also assisting with broader ranch operations as required.
Reporting To
Ranch Manager
Primary Responsibilities Forestry Management
· Assist with selective thinning, timber improvement projects, and vegetation control.
· Identify and report disease, insect infestations, invasive plant species, and storm damage.
· Maintain forest roads, firebreaks, and access trails.
· Assist with prescribed burning operations and wildfire prevention measures.
· Operate forestry equipment including chainsaws, brush cutters, tractors, mulchers, and other machinery.
· Monitor regeneration and replanting projects where required.
· Maintain accurate records of forestry activities and acreage treated.
· Assist with wildlife habitat improvement through forestry management practices.
Ranch Operations
· Operate tractors, skid steers, UTVs, mowers, chainsaws, and other ranch equipment safely.
· Repair and maintain fences, gates, roads, and ranch infrastructure.
· Assist with tree removal and storm clean-up operations.
· Support landscaping and grounds maintenance activities.
· Carry out routine inspections of ranch facilities and equipment.
· Assist other departments during peak operational periods.
Equipment Maintenance
· Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance of equipment.
· Maintain tools and machinery in a clean and serviceable condition.
· Report defects and maintenance requirements promptly.
· Follow all ranch safety procedures and operating policies.
Qualifications Required
· Minimum 3 years’ experience in forestry, land management, habitat management, or related outdoor work.
· Experience operating forestry and agricultural equipment.
· Knowledge of tree species, forest management practices, and vegetation control.
· Ability to safely operate chainsaws and other power equipment.
· Ability to work outdoors in Florida weather conditions year-round.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
Preferred
· Forestry degree, forestry technician certification, or equivalent experience.
· Prescribed burn experience.
· Herbicide application certification.
· Experience in wildlife habitat management.
· Experience operating heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, and forestry mulchers.
· Knowledge of native Florida ecosystems and land management practices.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time, hands-on outdoor position involving forestry operations, habitat management, machinery operation, and general ranch duties. The role requires working in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain throughout the ranch.
Compensation
Competitive compensation package based upon experience and qualifications.
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
