Job Overview
DCW is seeking a qualified applicant for a full-time, on-site, salaried Accounting Manager position in Hillsboro, IL. Reporting directly to the Vice President, this role will be closely involved in the day-to-day financial operations and continued growth of our company. This employee will manage a range of core accounting responsibilities, including financial reporting, regulatory compliance, billing oversite, payroll coordination, account reconciliations, and internal controls. The position will also support acquisition-related financial analysis and integration, service pricing, budgeting, and the financial preparation and review of municipal and commercial contract bids. This position offers significant growth and increasing leadership responsibility. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and motivated to grow beyond traditional accounting duties and help lead the company’s financial strategy. Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Financial Oversight & Reporting – Manage core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial statements, budgets, and cash flow forecasting
- Regulatory Compliance – Ensure adherence to GAAP, tax regulations, and waste industry-specific financial reporting requirements
- Cost Control & Efficiency – Monitor operational expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support margin optimization
- Billing & Revenue Management – Oversee customer invoicing, collections, and contract pricing to ensure accuracy and timely payments
- Payroll & Benefits Administration – Coordinate payroll processing, employee benefits accounting, and labor cost tracking
- Internal Controls & Risk Management – Implement and uphold financial controls and risk mitigation strategies to prevent fraud and enhance accountability
- Capital Expenditure & Asset Management – Track and manage vehicles, containers, and other capital investments
- Acquisition Analysis & Integration – Support the financial evaluation of acquisition candidates, assist with due diligence, and help integrate acquired companies
- Financial Analysis & Reporting Support – Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic reporting to support business growth. Utilize spreadsheets and Excel data analysis techniques to interpret financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend improvements.
- Banking & Cash Flow Management – Maintain banking relationships, monitor cash flow, and assist with financing needs
- Leadership Development & Strategic Growth – Take on increasing responsibility for financial planning, policy development, acquisition integration, pricing strategy, and executive-level decision support, with the opportunity for significant professional growth
Qualifications
- 5+ years of accounting or finance experience, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or lead role
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, ADP, or similar); excellent proficiency in Excel
- Background in operational or service-industry accounting preferred (waste, logistics, construction, or similar)
- Demonstrated ability to manage billing, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and month-end close
- Ability to work independently, identify priorities, develop and manage their own task list, and follow projects through to completion with limited oversight
- Creative and solutions-oriented, with the ability to develop new internal procedures, pricing strategies, analytical tools, and process improvements
- Comfortable taking ownership of unfamiliar challenges, researching potential solutions, and making well-supported recommendations to company leadership
- Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment
- Effective communicator who can present financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA a plus
