About Us
The San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis (SFCP) is a nonprofit educational organization that provides psychoanalytic training and continuing education for mental health professionals. Throughout the year, we host lectures, seminars, conferences, and educational events both in-person and online, for our members, students, and mental health community.
At SFCP, we aspire to cultivate a diverse community dedicated to the teaching, practice, and ongoing evolution of a pluralistic and socially-relevant psychoanalysis that aims to reduce suffering and promote psychological growth.
Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable and tech-savvy Event Technology Assistant to help operate the technical side of our events.
The Event Technology Assistant supports the technical operation of our educational events, ensuring a smooth experience for presenters and participants. SFCP hosts a combination of in-person, online, and hybrid educational events throughout the year, with most events offered in a hybrid format.
*This is primarily an in-person position, as most events are hosted on-site at SFCP. A limited number of online-only events may be conducted remotely from home.
This position is ideal for a college student, recent graduate, or anyone interested in technology, media production, or live event support who is looking for event-based part-time work.
We value curiosity, reliability, and a willingness to learn more than prior experience with professional AV systems. Comprehensive training will be provided, and the successful candidate will initially shadow our current event technician before taking on events independently.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with staff, organizers, and presenters to prepare and determine presentation and technology needs for upcoming events.
- Work alongside the Facilities Assistant to set up and breakdown event spaces and equipment before each event according to program requirements and presenter needs, including arranging seating, tables, and audiovisual equipment as needed.
- Test microphones, cameras, and presentation equipment prior to each event, monitor audio and video quality throughout events, and troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
- Set up and manage Zoom participants, including admitting attendees, spotlighting speakers, and creating breakout rooms.
- Support communication between in-person and remote participants during Q&A sessions.
- Additional support tasks as assigned.

- Able to communicate professionally with presenters and attendees.
- Dependable and punctual.These events run on a strict schedule.
- Able to follow established procedures while adapting when unexpected situations arise.
- Comfortable working independently after training.
Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:
- Zoom
- Audio/video equipment
- IT support
- Live event support
- Streaming or broadcasting
Physical Requirements
- Able to move and set up light equipment such as monitors, cables, microphones, and laptops.
- Comfortable walking throughout the auditorium during events.
- Occasionally lift equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
Additional Information
- SFCP's event season runs from September through June, with approximately two weeks off in December. Work schedules are tied to the event calendar, so hours will be more active during the season and minimal during the summer months.
- Part-time employees are eligible for paid sick leave in accordance with the San Francisco Paid Sick Leave Ordinance and applicable law.
