Oceanside Solutions LLC is seeking experienced Field Surveyors / Hydrographic Survey Technicians to support beach, marine construction, dredging, hydrographic, and topographic survey projects. This position involves field work in outdoor, marine, and construction environments, including work from survey vessels, beaches, dredging sites, and project staging areas.
This is not an entry-level position. Applicants must have at least two years of surveying, marine construction, hydrographic, topographic, GPS, or closely related field experience to be considered.
Position Summary
The Field Surveyor / Hydrographic Survey Technician will assist with beach and hydrographic surveys, marine construction layout, GPS positioning, project monitoring, and daily field documentation. This role supports the collection of accurate survey data used for project planning, construction progress, dredging verification, monitoring, and reporting.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform beach, hydrographic, topographic, and marine construction surveys.
- Assist with GPS positioning, construction layout, and project monitoring.
- Operate or assist with survey equipment, including GPS systems, sonar systems, scanners, computers, radios, and related field equipment.
- Maintain accurate field notes, survey logs, daily reports, and project documentation.
- Assist with the setup, operation, care, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of survey equipment.
- Support the care and upkeep of company boats, trucks, UTVs, trailers, and other field assets.
- Coordinate field activities with Project Surveyors, Project Managers, Engineers, and other field personnel.
- Work safely in outdoor, marine, construction, nearshore, offshore, and remote project environments.
- Travel as required for project assignments, including domestic and international work.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of relevant surveying, hydrographic surveying, topographic surveying, construction layout, GPS, marine construction, dredging, or related field experience.
- Experience working outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, long field days, and project-based schedules as needed.
- Ability and willingness to travel. Approximately 30% of field work may be outside the United States.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Valid passport required, or ability to obtain one upon hire.
- Comfort working on or around boats, including nearshore and offshore environments.
- Ability to operate or assist with vessels up to approximately 40 feet, depending on experience level.
- Ability to lift, carry, load, and move equipment, supplies, and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- General computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, and basic file management.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn company procedures and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Hypack, Trimble, single beam sonar, multibeam sonar, GPS equipment, 3D laser scanners, or similar survey systems.
- Prior experience in dredging, beach renourishment, marine construction, hydrographic surveying, or topographic surveying.
- Experience reading construction plans, survey drawings, or project specifications.
- Basic CAD knowledge.
- Microsoft Excel proficiency.
- College education or technical training in surveying, geomatics, marine science, engineering technology, construction, or a related field.
- Vessel operation experience.
Work Environment
This position requires field work in marine, beach, construction, and outdoor environments. Work may include long days, early mornings, weekends, travel, international assignments, vessel-based work, and physically demanding conditions. Candidates must be comfortable working as part of a field crew and following safety procedures while maintaining accurate records and professional communication.
