Hourly Pay: $18.76 – $25.53 (Depending on Experience)
Term: Up to 6 months per cycle
The City of Pittsburg is seeking motivated individuals to join our Parks and Maintenance - Landscape Division as Maintenance Aides. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, take pride in enhancing public spaces, and are eager to contribute to the beauty and upkeep of our City parks and landscapes.
As a Maintenance Aide, you will assist with a variety of park and landscape maintenance tasks under the guidance of a supervisor or lead staff member. New hires will gain hands-on experience in landscaping, tree care, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with general landscape maintenance and park upkeep
Operate tools and equipment such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, blowers, and chippers
Follow safety procedures and City guidelines
Support the team in maintaining clean and welcoming outdoor spaces

Attention to detail and commitment to completing tasks in a timely manner
Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, or overtime
Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods
A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact respectfully with the public and team members
Basic mechanical aptitude; previous landscaping or maintenance experience is highly desirable

The City of Pittsburg is a full-service city following the council-manager form of government. Tasks include general building and park cleaning including, restrooms, emptying trash containers and general cleaning work around parks and facilities.

Landscape duties will include general landscape maintenance such as raking, sweeping, mowing, pruning shrubs, manual watering, spraying herbicides and planting.

Building maintenance may include painting both exterior and interior, light carpentry and site preparation work for concrete.

Prior tractor with accessories operation experience desired.

Experience in landscape maintenance and/ or maintenance work desired but not required.

2. Interviews: Accepted applicants will be interviewed by park supervisory staff and offered a seasonal job if successful during interview and have provided a clean driving record printout to the hiring supervisor.
3. Pre-Employment Screening/New Hires: Candidates will be fingerprinted for a background check and submit results for a drug screening test as part of pre-employment. Successful candidates who pass the background process will complete new hire paperwork and begin work soon after.
