Position Summary
Russell Transport, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Safety Assistant to support our Safety Department in maintaining compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and company policies. This position plays a key role in promoting a culture of safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting our drivers and operations team.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and able to work in a fast-paced transportation environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with maintaining Driver Qualification (DQ) files and regulatory compliance.
- Review and process driver logs and Hours of Service (HOS) records.
- Monitor ELD compliance and assist drivers with log corrections.
- Track accidents, incidents, and safety violations.
- Maintain accident and injury documentation.
- Schedule and coordinate new hire safety orientation.
- Conduct driver safety meetings and training sessions.
- Monitor driver performance and CSA scores.
- Assist with DOT audits and internal compliance reviews.
- Maintain FMCSA, DOT, and company safety records.
- Ensure required driver documentation is current, including medical certificates and licenses.
- Assist with vehicle inspections and maintenance compliance.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and safety records as required.
- Respond to driver questions regarding safety policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and safety metrics for management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of transportation, safety, or administrative experience preferred.
- Knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations preferred.
- OSHA knowledge is a plus.
- Experience with McLeod, Samsara, PeopleNet, or similar transportation software is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Schedule:
Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
