Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathe machines, including Fanuc-controlled equipment, OSB controlled machines ensuring precise machining of metal parts according to technical drawings and specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to determine machining requirements.
- Program CNC lathes using G-code and M-code, incorporating CAM programming techniques to optimize tool paths and machining processes.
- Conduct machine setup, calibration, and tooling changes efficiently to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other measurement tools for quality control purposes.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, perform manual machining when necessary, and adjust programs or setups to ensure quality standards are met.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area while adhering to safety protocols; operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, and welding equipment as needed for tooling or fixture adjustments.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying process improvements and participating in continuous improvement projects.
- Conduct quality inspections on finished parts to verify conformance with specifications; document inspection results accurately.
Experience
- Proven experience operating CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment with a focus on metal machining.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming using G-code/M-code; familiarity with Fanuc controls is preferred.
- Skilled in reading blueprints and mechanical blueprints with an understanding of GD&T principles for precise measurement and inspection.
- Hands-on experience with CAM software such as SolidWorks or CAD programs for toolpath generation is advantageous.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately and perform mechanical blueprint interpretation.
- Familiarity with machining tools including grinders, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other precision measurement instruments.
- Mechanical knowledge combined with the ability to troubleshoot machine issues effectively; experience with manual machining is a plus.
- Basic math skills necessary for measurement calculations and process adjustments; proficiency in using measurement instruments like micrometers and calipers is essential.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC milling, plastics injection molding, welding, and assembly is beneficial but not mandatory.
