Job Summary
We are seeking a substation technician to support the construction, installation, and commissioning of electrical substations within the power‑delivery system. This role performs hands‑on field work including steel and equipment assembly, grounding installation, conduit fabrication, cable routing, and basic electrical terminations. Technicians read and interpret construction drawings, follow utility and company safety standards, and work as part of a crew to build reliable, high‑voltage infrastructure.
The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, physical capability, and strict adherence to safety protocols. Technicians routinely work outdoors, at heights, and around energized equipment under the direction of foremen and journeymen. A successful Substation Construction Technician contributes to high‑quality installations, maintains accurate documentation, and supports the safe, timely completion of substation construction projects
Duties
- Assemble structural steel, equipment stands, and bus supports according to engineered drawings and utility standards.
- Install grounding grids, ground risers, and bonding connections to ensure proper fault‑current paths and system safety.
- Build and route conduit systems including PVC, rigid, and flexible metallic conduit for control and power circuits.
- Pull, label, and terminate control cables for breakers, transformers, relays, and auxiliary equipment.
- Set and align major substation equipment such as breakers, switches, transformers, and capacitor banks.
- Interpret construction prints, one‑lines, and wiring diagrams to execute work accurately and identify conflicts.
- Perform equipment testing support including insulation checks, continuity tests, and functional verification.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment safely and efficiently in outdoor and high‑voltage environments.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety protocols including grounding procedures, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout.
- Document daily work activities, material usage, and installation progress to support project tracking and QA/QC.
Experience
- Proven experience working as an industrial electrician or commercial electrician with a focus on high-voltage electrical wiring and maintenance.
- Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, overhead line systems, transformers, utility electrical systems, and low voltage applications.
- Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics related to electrical infrastructure projects.
- Experience working in the energy & utilities sector or similar field service roles involving outdoor work environments.
- Prior experience with power line construction projects or maintenance of power distribution systems is highly desirable.

Pay: $21.00 - $50.00 per hour
