Job Description: CSAD Director of English Education (6th-12th)

Position Overview:
As the Director of English Education, you will play a pivotal role in providing leadership and support to Concept Schools’ network of schools across multiple states. Your responsibilities will include curriculum development, assessment creation, resource optimization, policy communication, collaboration with other content directors, providing professional development opportunities for ELA teachers while building the capacity of regional and school leaders to ensure high-quality implementation at scale.
This position emphasizes strategy, systems, and sustainability rather than routine classroom-level service delivery. Travel may be required based on network needs and priorities; and may constitute up to 25% of the total time, with being heavier at times such as the beginning of the school year. This position reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer.
Primary Role and Purpose:
The Director collaborates with colleagues from various departments, regional leaders, school administrators, and instructional staff to fulfill assigned responsibilities, ultimately contributing to the achievement of Concept Schools’ academic goals. The role focuses on curriculum leadership, professional learning systems, data-informed decision-making, and targeted instructional support.
Responsibilities:
Main Duties:
- Design and steward the Concept Academic Model
- Establish and refine systemwide instructional frameworks, expectations, and priorities
- Ensure coherence across curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning
- Design and implement content-area curriculum aligned with Concept Schools’ vision, standards, and instructional priorities
- Incorporate foundational skills, disciplinary practices, and relevant standards (e.g., Common Core) into curriculum frameworks
- Codify, strengthen, and sustain the “Concept Model” as the network grows
- Monitor educational research, instructional trends, emerging technologies, and relevant innovations to inform strategic planning and implementation and keep school & regional leaders informed
- Collaborate across content areas and departments to ensure cohesive and integrated instructional approaches
- Lead curriculum strategy and effectiveness
- Design and implement content-area curriculum aligned with Concept Schools’ vision, standards, and instructional priorities
- Incorporate foundational skills, disciplinary practices, and relevant standards into curriculum frameworks
- Select, evaluate, and refine curriculum and instructional resources
- Identify and optimize resources to help school communities achieve specific benchmark goals in social studies.
- Make informed decisions on instructional supplies, textbooks, and equipment,
- Lead multi-year curriculum adoption and review cycles
- Monitor and analyze curriculum implementation fidelity and effectiveness using student and program data
- Recommend refinements based on evidence and system needs.
- Support responsible and effective integration of instructional technology and digital learning tools where appropriate
- Build regional capacity and empower regions
- Support DTLs, superintendents, regional instructional coaches, and leadership teams in strengthening instructional systems and implementation practices
- Establish regular, structured collaboration with regional leaders and coaches
- Develop scalable systems, tools, and resources that promote consistency across schools and regions
- Build long-term leadership capacity and sustainable instructional systems rather than dependence on centralized support
- Design and deliver professional development
- Design network-wide professional learning structures aligned to organizational priorities
- Develop and facilitate professional learning sessions, workshops, and network events aligned to content-area priorities
- Provide PD primarily to regional leaders (Superintendent, DTL, regional instructional coaches) and building leaders (principal, APs, building instructional coaches).
- Teacher-facing PD may include BOY Institute sessions, mid-year regional PDs, group trainings upon strategic request, webinars, and structured virtual office hours in coordination with school and regional leadership
- Ensure professional learning experiences are practical, data-informed, sustainable, and aligned to implementation goals
- Provide targeted, strategic school support
- Provide direct, in-person instructional support primarily for targeted schools, new school initiatives, or new teacher cohorts, in coordination with regional leadership
- Conduct school site visits and engage with school leadership teams, in coordination with regional administration, to support program evaluation and targeted improvement efforts
- Use data to identify where CSAD involvement will have the greatest system impact
- Coordinate support efforts with DTLs and regional administration to ensure alignment and avoid duplication of services
- While routine classroom visits are not the primary function, CSAD Directors maintain access to classrooms, in coordination with regional administration, to assess the effectiveness of curriculum and resources
- Leverage data for decision-making
- Access, analyze, and interpret academic, assessment, and implementation data across the network
- Identify cross-school trends, implementation gaps, strengths, and instructional pressure points
- Inform strategic decisions related to curriculum, assessment, professional learning, intervention, and resource allocation
- Use assessment data to support instructional decision-making and identify areas for reteaching and program improvement at the system level
- Increase system-wide transparency and visibility into academic progress
- Student Events and External Resources
- Organize and support network-wide student events, competitions, and academic initiatives related to the department
- Inform teachers, school & regional leaders of external events, competitions & opportunities
- Support schools and regions in establishing partnerships with external institutions when appropriate
- Share funding opportunities and external resources that support program development and instructional improvement

Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in Education or a related field (Bachelor’s degree considered based on experience) ● Minimum of 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher in ELA. ● Strong understanding of content standards, curriculum development
and instructional best practices ● Proven experience in curriculum development and implementation ● Proficiency in data analysis and using data to drive instructional decisions ● Excellent written and oral communication skills ● Ability to work collaboratively, reach consensus, and build effective relationships ● Proficiency with computers and instructional technology systems ● Willingness and ability to travel to support schools across the network
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multi-school, district, charter network, or CMO leadership settings
- Experience coaching instructional leaders or leading regional professional development initiatives
- Experience leading curriculum adoption or large-scale instructional implementation efforts
- Experience supporting organizational change management and strategic planning
- Familiarity with STEM-focused, college-preparatory, or standards-based instructional models
