Medical Assistant – Urgent Care | Contract-to-Hire

AlliedUP is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant for a contract-to-hire opportunity with a large Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Berkeley, CA.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Medical Assistant who enjoys a fast-paced urgent care environment and is passionate about providing high-quality care to diverse communities.
As part of a patient-centered care team, you will work closely with providers and clinical staff to support patient flow, perform clinical procedures, document care in Epic, and help create a positive patient experience.
Room patients, obtain vital signs, review medications and health history, and document patient information in Epic.
Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and point-of-care testing.
Administer vaccines and injections as ordered and within scope of practice.
Perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, EKGs, ear lavage, audiometry, and basic in-clinic laboratory testing.
Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
Monitor patient flow and exam room availability in a fast-paced urgent care setting.
Prepare, clean, disinfect, and stock exam rooms, instruments, and clinical areas.
Provide patient education and discharge instructions as directed by providers and established protocols.
Assist with referrals, prescriptions, follow-up appointments, and patient discharge activities.
Maintain medical supplies and equipment in accordance with infection control and safety standards.
Participate in team meetings and quality improvement activities.
Provide front-office support as needed, including answering phones, reception, scheduling, medical records, and related administrative duties.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
At least one year of Medical Assistant experience in an urgent care, community health center, outpatient clinic, or medical office setting.
Current CPR/BLS certification from an AHA-approved organization.
Clinical experience with vital signs, injections, phlebotomy, specimen collection, EKGs, and point-of-care testing.
Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
Ability to prioritize competing demands and remain calm and effective in a fast-paced urgent care environment.
Ability to work effectively with patients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
Previous urgent care experience strongly preferred.
Epic experience strongly preferred.
Medical Assistant certification through AAMA, AMT, or a recognized California certifying organization.
Community health or FQHC experience.
Experience serving diverse and underserved patient populations.
