Position Summary:
The Custodian is responsible for cleaning in assigned areas at Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Job Functions:
-
On a daily basis, cleans assigned areas following the directions of the supervisor.
-
Dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
-
Washing walls, door panels, door frames, door knobs, window sills, and woodwork.
-
Cleaning restrooms and showers and replenishing bathroom supplies.
-
Emptying wastebaskets and washing them as needed. Transporting trash and waste to disposal area.

Other related custodial duties.
-
Performs other, less frequent cleaning duties as assigned.

Cleans rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture with proper equipment and chemicals.
-
Cleans light fixtures, changes bulbs, and replaces broken plate covers.
-
Polishes metal fixtures and brass.
-
Detail cleans residence hall rooms and common areas when empty.
-
Cleans windows (inside and out) and window blinds.
-
Cleans gym backboards and basketball goals.
-
Uses industrial custodial equipment properly.
-
Moves or transports equipment around campus as needed.
-
Cleans and maintains custodial equipment after each use.
-
Examples of equipment include floor buffers, floor scrubbers, vacuums, boost machine, Kaviac, carpet extractors, back packs, and wet/dry vacuums.

Uses cleaning chemicals appropriately and safely (for example, floor strippers and waxes).

Maintains a clean, organized, and supplied custodial cart and utility closet, including transporting supplies. Keeps closet locked and does not leave cart unattended.

Unlocks doors and is responsible for campus keys.

Observes and reports areas in need of repair or further attention.

Works on special projects and events, which may include moving or setting up furniture or staging.

Follows safety and security procedures while working and takes preventative measures to avoid danger and injury to themselves and others. Eye protection and slip resistant shoes are required.

Attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.

Attends work in person on a regular basis in order to interact with and perform as part of the office team and other departments (i.e., regular attendance).

Assumes other duties and responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
Position Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.
-
Must be capable of using industrial custodial equipment.
-
Must be able to learn the proper use of cleaning chemicals
-
Must be dependable and able to work as part of a team.
-
Must be able to work occasional weekends or evenings as needed.
-
Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor over long periods of time.
-
Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, twist, reach, grasp small objects, and grasp large objects.

Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry at least 20 pounds on a regular basis.
-
Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally.
-
Must be able to work in heat and cold and in dirty/dusty areas.
