The reporting location for this position is at Oceano Dunes Maintenance Shop, 928 Pacific Blvd., Oceano, CA 93445.This position will work under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor.
The Senior Maintenance Aide position is responsible for the housekeeping functions such as clean and inspect all restrooms portable/vault toilets, and shower facilities at the Oceano Dunes State Vehicle Recreation Area; this also includes Pismo State Beach and North Beach and Oceano campgrounds. This position will assist Permanent maintenance personnel in maintaining facilities and assisting with projects, and may also work with seasonal crews, volunteer crews CCC, or Cal Fire crews. This position is required to work weekends and holidays, and occasional odd or irregular hours, including the 4th of July. Occasional travel may be required.
This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Work Environment:
Includes outdoors in a sand dune environment, in the cold and heat, frequent winds, blowing sand and dust, insects and intense off-highway vehicle activity. Work in hazardous conditions (i.e. raw sewage, chemicals, garbage, and hypodermic needles, rodents, broken glass, driving on loose sand and off road, operate off road vehicles and equipment, etc.) Work environment may expose incumbent to noise, dust, fumes, extreme wind, hot and cold temperatures, and unpleasant odors. Work at elevated heights, on or near machinery and heavy equipment or traffic.
Physical Abilities:
Ability to perform strenuous manual labor (i.e. digging trenching, boring, lifting, carrying, loading etc.) requires repetitive movements of heavy objects, ability to walk across uneven terrain, loose sand in both uphill and downhill conditions to perform the duties of the job, stand for long periods of time, (in excess of 2 hours) to perform the duties associated with the job, move about, stand, reach, stoop, or bend, lift up to 50lbs and may lift up to 75 lbs. with a required medical clearance.
