Position SummaryThe Health Aide will work under the supervision of the School Nurse to support the delivery of health services to students in grades PreK12 at READS Academy, a public day school. READS Academy provides a highly specialized education setting for students who have special needs in the area of social-emotional and behavioral regulation. READS Academy is located at 44 Bedford Street in Middleborough, MA. The Health Aide assists in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment by providing basic first aid, supporting medication administration, conducting health screenings, communicating with families, and ensuring accurate health records and documentation.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStudent Health Care- Assess students presenting with illness or injury and provide basic first aid within the scope of training and delegated responsibilities.- Monitor students who are ill or injured and determine when referral to the School Nurse is necessary.- Respond to routine health office visits and assist with health-related emergencies.- Support implementation of student health plans as directed by the School Nurse.- Medication Administration- Administer medications and treatments as delegated by the School Nurse and in accordance with state regulations and district policies.- Assist with medication inventory, storage, and documentation.- Health Screenings and Preventive Services- Assist with vision, hearing, height, weight, and other required health screenings.- Help organize screening schedules and follow-up communications with families.- Support immunization compliance monitoring and health record review.Communication and Family Support- Contact parents/guardians regarding student illness, injury, medication concerns, and health-related follow-up needs.- Communicate professionally and compassionately with families, staff, and healthcare providers.- Assist with obtaining physician orders, immunization records, and other required health documentation.- Documentation and Record Keeping- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.- Assist with data entry, filing, record audits, and preparation of reports.- Monitor health records to ensure required forms, screenings, and medical orders remain current.- Collaboration and School Support- Collaborate with the School Nurse, administrators, teachers, counselors, and related service providers to support student health needs.- Participate in staff training and professional development as required.- Assist with health office organization, inventory management, and routine administrative tasks.- Perform other related duties as assigned by the School Nurse or administration.Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or healthcare-related training preferred.- Current CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.- Experience working with children or adolescents preferred.- Experience in a school, healthcare, behavioral health, or special education setting preferred.- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.- Ability to work effectively with students who have social, emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs.- Physical Requirements- Ability to lift and assist students as needed.- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.- Ability to respond quickly to student health needs and emergencies.- Work Schedule and Compensation- School year (183 days) / Up to 27.5 hours per week- Optional opportunity to work the extended school year (ESY) for an additional 15 work days during the summer- Salary is between $25.00 - $30.00 per hour based on experience- This position is eligible for benefits- Non-Bargaining Unit PositionThis position offers the opportunity to play a vital role in supporting student health, safety, and educational success as part of a collaborative school health team.
