The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting daily clinical operations within the fertility center. This role is designed as a rotational position, where the Medical Assistant will rotate throughout Phlebotomy, Ultrasound, and the Operating Room (OR) / Operative Suite, and ultimately rotate to areas of need based on the center's clinical priorities. The individual will gain comprehensive exposure across departments while ensuring quality patient care, proper procedural support, and collaboration with physicians and other clinical staff.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Rotate throughout the Phlebotomy, Ultrasound, and the Operative Suite before flexing to where needed.
- Prepare patients for procedures by obtaining vital signs, reviewing consents, and ensuring proper gowning.
- Perform blood draws in accordance with established protocols (patient identification, tube selection, labeling, etc.).
- Assist ultrasound staff by preparing patients, supporting providers, and maintaining a smooth workflow in the imaging area.
- Support the clinical team in the operative suite by anticipating needs, handling instruments, and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of procedure rooms, ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile and appropriately stocked.
- Wash, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments according to infection control standards and clinic protocol.
- Transport specimens to the lab with strict adherence to protocol and chain-of-custody guidelines.
- Provide post-procedure care and discharge instructions under the supervision of licensed medical personnel.
- Monitor supply inventory and assist with restocking and ordering for all rotation areas
- Ensure compliance with all infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
- Document patient interactions and clinical observations accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Maintain clear, professional communication with patients, ensuring a supportive environment hroughout the procedure experience.
- Assist with equipment cleaning and environmental cleaning of assigned areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A high school diploma or GED is required; a medical assistant certification is preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical office or surgical/operative setting; experience in women's health or fertility strongly preferred.
- Ability to potentially travel to our satellite offices in Long Island and/or Westchester.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required (or willingness to obtain it upon hire).
- Familiarity with EMR systems.
- Experience or training in instrument sterilization and infection control procedures strongly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; strong attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and compassionate in a fast-paced, emotionally sensitive environment.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed based on procedure schedules.
- Willing to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services, meetings, workshops and with the assessment of plan of care by providers.
- Ability to stand for long periods, bend, and lift to 25 lbs.
- Must be comfortable in an operative setting and with exposure to clinical procedures and biological materials.
- Fast paced environment with occasional high-pressure situations.
- Frequent interaction with a diverse population, including team members, providers, patients, Insurance companies, and other members of the public.
- Physical demands: Frequent sitting, writing, typing, grasping and speaking.
- Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical office or surgical/operative setting
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least 1-year of Phlebotomist experience is required.
- A Certified Medical Assistant certificate is preferred
- Experience in surgical/operative areas preferred.
- Women's Healthcare background preferred
- Microsoft Suite required.

- 8-hour shift
- Opening or Closing shift
- On call
- Rotating weekends
Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
