Job Description
We are looking for a Test Automation Engineer to design, develop, execute, and maintain automated testing solutions supporting Website Modernization Project and SmarTrip 2.0 application development. This position will be a full-time contract and onsite in Alexandria, VA.
What You'll Do
Review requirements specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
Drive the adoption of best practices around software design, development, testing, and performance
Work with development teams to design, develop, and execute automated test scripts that validate project test cases
Support automated functional testing across multiple messaging protocols with a focus on application workflows and test result validation
Track and communicate task progress, project status, and key performance metrics
Participate in troubleshooting and issue triage activities across multiple teams to support timely resolution
Communicate effectively with internal teams, external vendors, and project stakeholders
Conduct troubleshooting and execute testing in support of remediation and defect resolution efforts
Analyze application and data changes and document their impact on test automation activities
Ensure test results meet defined objectives and configure testing and monitoring tools accordingly
Collaborate with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to manage and support testing environments
Maintain technical expertise through ongoing learning in test automation, quality assurance, and software development practices
Complete required WMATA security awareness training and comply with organizational security standards
Design and create test conditions, test cases, and automated scripts that address business and technical requirements
What You'll Need
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
6+ years of experience with test automation development using Selenium and JavaScript
5+ years of experience with programming frameworks, development platforms, and databases including C#, .NET, SQL, or Oracle
5+ years of functional testing experience, including test analysis and validation
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks and scripts
Experience reviewing requirements and technical documentation to support testing activities
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Experience working with DevOps, Infrastructure, and Development teams in an Agile environment
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience documenting testing results, defects, and quality metrics
Preferred:
Experience supporting mobile application testing initiatives
Experience working on transportation, transit, or public sector technology projects
Experience supporting website modernization efforts
Knowledge of automated testing tools and monitoring technologies beyond Selenium
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment validation
Physical Demands
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards
Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc
Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor

$42 per hour
The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
