Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in psychiatric care to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide comprehensive mental health services across diverse clinical settings, including inpatient psychiatric units, outpatient facilities, and community-based programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in psychiatric nursing, with the flexibility to adapt to various environments and patient needs. This position involves working day and night shifts on a 36-hour weekly schedule, contributing significantly to patient recovery and well-being. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in electronic health record systems, possess critical care experience, and have a passion for delivering compassionate mental health care.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality psychiatric nursing care to patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring safety, comfort, and dignity.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including mental status examinations, vital signs, and behavioral observations.
- Administer medications accurately, including psychotropic agents, and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with best practices.
- Maintain meticulous medical documentation within electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Provide patient education on medication management, coping strategies, and discharge instructions.
- Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage acute behavioral episodes effectively.
- Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols to safeguard patient confidentiality and safety.
- Participate in ongoing training related to trauma-informed care, dementia care, or other specialized psychiatric services as needed.
- Support discharge planning efforts by coordinating with community resources and family members.
Skills
- Proven experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia care, or behavioral health conditions.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications administration, including injection techniques and IV infusion when applicable.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; proficiency in medical documentation standards.
- Ability to perform comprehensive physical examinations and mental health assessments accurately.
- Knowledge of trauma medicine, acute pain management, and crisis triage procedures.
- Experience working within hospital environments such as Level I or Level II trauma centers preferred.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Competence in critical care procedures including airway management and ventilator support when necessary.
- Understanding of infection control practices specific to psychiatric settings.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications such as ACLS or PALS are advantageous.
- Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail.
