Lead Upholsterer (Marine)
National Canvas has been building custom marine canvas & upholstery in South Florida since 1974. We are hiring a Lead Upholsterer to run our upholstery team.
This is a real leadership seat, not a title. You will own the upholstery side of the shop: the work, the standard, the schedule, & the fabric orders. If you know upholstery and you want the room to run it your way, this is that job.
The work is mostly marine. Center console reupholstery is our bread & butter, and we also do yacht & superyacht interiors, helm seats, cockpit cushions, sunpads, & bolsters. Every boat is different, so no two weeks look the same.
What you will do
- Lead the upholstery team day to day: assign work, set the standard, & keep jobs moving
- Build & re-cover marine cushions, helm seats, sunpads, bolsters, & interior upholstery
- Template, cut, shape foam, & fit marine vinyls & fabrics
- Sew & finish to a premium standard: clean corners, tight pleats, straight seams, PTFE thread where it belongs
- Work with our seamstress & canvas techs on jobs big & small, from a single cushion to a full yacht interior
- Order fabric, foam, thread, & hardware, and keep the shop stocked ahead of the schedule
- Train newer hands as we grow the team
What we are looking for
- Solid upholstery experience. Marine preferred, but strong auto, furniture, or aviation upholsterers translate well and we will teach you the marine side
- Comfortable with any fabric: marine vinyls, Sunbrella, Serge Ferrari, & PTFE thread
- Can sew. Industrial machine time, foam shaping, & pattern making
- Ready to lead & work with autonomy. You will get the standard & the resources, and then you run it
- Respectful of the people around you, clean & tidy at your station, & on time
- Willing to work, & someone who actually enjoys this trade
- Detail obsessed. You spot a crooked pleat from across the shop

Pay & schedule
- Starting at $28-32 per hour, based on experience
- Full-time, Monday through Friday
- Overtime available
