Job Title: Laboratory Supervisor – Blood Bank
Position Summary
The Laboratory Supervisor – Blood Bank is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Blood Bank department, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining quality patient care, and supporting staff development. This role provides leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight while fostering a collaborative and positive work environment across the laboratory network.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily Blood Bank operations, ensuring accurate and timely testing, transfusion services, and product management.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and technical support to laboratory staff while promoting a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, AABB, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
- Monitor quality assurance programs, proficiency testing, quality indicators, and corrective action processes.
- Collaborate with laboratory leadership and cross-functional teams to implement enterprise-wide initiatives, standardization efforts, and process improvements.
- Assist with budget management, resource allocation, productivity monitoring, and cost-control initiatives.
- Coordinate staff orientation, training, competency assessments, and continuing education programs.
- Develop, review, and update departmental policies, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Blood Bank operations, transfusion practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in hiring, coaching, performance evaluations, employee development, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Support accreditation inspections, audits, and regulatory surveys.
- Drive employee engagement initiatives and promote a positive workplace culture focused on patient safety and quality outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related laboratory science field.
- MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP), or equivalent nationally recognized certification.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical laboratory experience with significant Blood Bank experience.
- Previous supervisory, lead, or leadership experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Strong knowledge of Blood Bank operations, transfusion medicine principles, and regulatory standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of Blood Bank experience.
- Experience with CAP inspections and regulatory compliance programs.
- Experience writing, revising, and implementing laboratory policies and procedures.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop laboratory professionals.
- Strong collaboration skills with enterprise leadership and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and process improvement initiatives.

- Advanced understanding of Blood Bank testing methodologies and quality management systems.

- Proficiency with laboratory information systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Schedule
Day Shift:
Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Occasional weekends as needed for operational oversight. No holiday requirement.
Evening Shift:
Monday – Friday | 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM
Occasional weekends as needed for operational oversight. No holiday requirement.
Compensation
Pay Range: $41.10 – $61.65 per hour
