Position Overview
The Eye Associates is seeking an experienced, patient-focused Optical Manager / Optician to lead our optical department while delivering exceptional patient care. This individual will oversee the daily operations of the optical, supervise and develop staff, optimize workflow, and ensure an outstanding patient experience from prescription to eyewear delivery.
The ideal candidate is an experienced optician with strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional service in a busy ophthalmology and optometry practice.
Essential ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the optical team.
- Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate optical staff.
- Develop employee schedules and manage department staffing.
- Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented culture.
- Monitor productivity and workflow to maximize efficiency.
- Address patient concerns and employee issues professionally.
- Partner with the Practice Administrator to achieve departmental goals.
Optical Operations
- Oversee the daily operations of the optical department.
- Ensure exceptional patient service throughout the eyewear selection and dispensing process.
- Coordinate communication between providers, technicians, and optical staff.
- Maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Assist with patient flow during busy clinic days.
Optician Responsibilities
- Interpret ophthalmic prescriptions accurately.
- Recommend appropriate frames, lenses, coatings, and specialty products.
- Perform optical measurements including PD, OC heights, and frame adjustments.
- Dispense, fit, repair, and adjust eyewear.
- Educate patients regarding lens technology and eyewear care.
- Troubleshoot optical issues and coordinate remakes when necessary.
Inventory & Vendor Management
- Maintain frame inventory and merchandising displays.
- Order frames, lenses, contact lenses, and optical supplies.
- Build and maintain vendor relationships.
- Monitor inventory levels and control department expenses.
- Recommend new products and frame lines based on patient demand.
Business Performance
- Monitor optical revenue and key performance indicators.
- Assist patients with insurance benefits and coverage.
- Promote premium lens options through patient education.
- Work to increase optical capture rate while maintaining excellent patient satisfaction.
- Support department budgeting and expense management.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control compliance.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming optical department.
- Ensure accurate documentation within patients chart.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum two years of optical experience.
- Previous supervisory or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic lenses, frame fitting, adjustments, and eyewear dispensing.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
Preferred
- Experience working within an ophthalmology practice.
- Experience with Compulink Electronic Medical Records.
- Experience managing inventory and vendor relationships.
- Knowledge of insurance benefits and vision plans.

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
