EVE Surgical and Referral Center in Lancaster, Ohio is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented part-time Equine Care Assistant & Hospital Facilities Support team member. This unique hybrid role combines hands-on patient care, clinical assistance, and essential facility maintenance.
While you will work alongside a collaborative team that helps with daily tasks, you will be the primary person responsible for the overall cleanliness, biosecurity, and organization of our hospital facilities. This is a physical, rewarding role perfect for an experienced horse person or veterinary assistant student who takes pride in maintaining an immaculate medical environment.
Hours & Schedule
- Status: Part-Time (12–15 hours per week).
- Days: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- Flexibility: Schedule is flexible but must include morning hours. We can accommodate a split shift (e.g., a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening) if preferred.
- Growth: Potential for increased hours or additional days in the future for the right candidate.
Compensation
- Starting Pay: $19.00 / hour to start, with room for growth based on performance, dependability, and facility asset mastery.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Assistance & Patient Care:
- Safely hold, restrain, and handle horses to assist veterinary staff during minor procedures, evaluations, and bandage changes.
- Perform basic grooming and patient care to ensure comfort during hospital stays.
- Assist with the daily feeding, watering, and turnout/hand walking of hospital patients.
- Surgical & Treatment Area Maintenance (Primary Focus):
- Serve as the primary caretaker for hospital cleanliness.
- Clean, sanitize, and prepare the Operating Room (OR) and standing surgery areas according to strict protocols.
- Monitor inventory, help with stocking medical and facility supplies, and assist with general clinic needs.
- Barn Maintenance & Biosecurity:
- Manage daily mucking, stripping, bedding, and disinfecting of horse stalls to maintain clean hospital environment.
- Maintain strict hospital biosecurity protocols while managing clinic trash and laundry.
- Grounds Maintenance:
- Oversee general outdoor upkeep, including operating the mower, weed eating, and keeping the clinic grounds looking professional. These are shared tasks with other emplyees.
Qualifications & Skills
- Horse Experience (Required): Confident, safe, and established horse-handling and grooming skills are a must. You must be comfortable handling various horse temperaments in a medical setting.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous standard of cleanliness
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, walk/stand for long periods, and work outdoors in various Ohio weather conditions.
- Equipment Skills (A Plus): Experience safely driving a tractor, zero-turn mower, and/or Gator/UTV is highly preferred.
- Reliability: Punctuality and flawless weekend attendance are critical, as our patients and surgical teams rely on us.
