Nokomis House is a premier dining establishment located in the Diamond Lake neighborhood of Minneapolis. Nokomis, referring to the neighborhood and nearby lake, is of Ojibwe origin and translates to my grandmother meaning that Nokomis House translates to my grandmother's house.
NH offers elevated American comfort food with nods to La Familia Tapatia’s Mexican restaurants La Tapatia (Roseville) and La Madre (Mill District Minneapolis), as well as a comprehensive drinks menu that appeals to all kinds. Responsibilities:
- Beverage Program Expertise:
- Prepare and serve various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including classic cocktails and house specials.
- Demonstrate elevated knowledge of spirits, beer, and wine, ensuring precise preparation and presentation of beverages.
- Opportunity to collaborate on new cocktail recipes that align with the restaurant's style and business model.
- Hospitality & Guest Service Excellence:
- Greet guests promptly with a warm, friendly demeanor.
- Provide attentive, personalized service throughout the dining experience.
- Engage with guests to understand their preferences and dietary restrictions, making tailored recommendations.
- Build regulars via elevated hospitality and genuine curiosity
- Bar Maintenance:
- Ensure the bar area is clean, organized, and fully stocked with all necessary supplies.
- Follow proper sanitation and safety protocols, including accurate labeling and storage
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate with management regarding stock needs
- Reset tables promptly for new guests, ensuring a welcoming and tidy appearance.
- Food Menu Knowledge & Order Management
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the restaurant’s menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, allergens, and flavor profiles.
- Advise guests on ideal food and beverage pairings to enhance their dining experience, treating each guest as an individual with a unique palate.
- Accurately take and input guest orders into the POS system; Toast knowledge a plus.
- Communicate special requests and dietary restrictions to the kitchen promptly.
- Ensure timely delivery of food and beverages, checking for accuracy and presentation.
- Upselling and Promotions:
- Promote and upsell premium dishes, beverages, special promotions, and featured items to enhance guest satisfaction and boost sales.
- Share detailed descriptions of dishes and beverages to entice guests, asking questions about preferences to ensure recommendations that fit the customer.
- Cleanliness & Sanitation:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tables, dining areas, and server stations—manicuring tables and keeping server stations presentable is a must.
- Follow proper sanitation and safety protocols, including handling and storage of food and beverages.
- Reset tables promptly for new guests, ensuring a welcoming and tidy appearance.
- Problem Resolution (especially important when defining the values of a new spot):
- Address and resolve guest concerns and complaints promptly and professionally.
- Ensure guests leave with a positive impression and a desire to return.
- Address problems amongst team members or with management before they become problems.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Bartender in an elevated dining environment.
- Knowledge of spirits, beer, wine, and general mixology principles.
- Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere.
- The restaurant industry and developing relationships with guests are things you enjoy!
- Passion for food and hospitality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
- Knowledge of Restaurant POS Systems – Toast preferred.
- Growth mindset!
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be available for mandatory training Tuesday, June 16- Friday, June 19 and Tuesday, June 23 – Friday, June 26.
- Must be transparent about summer vacation plans at the time of interview.
