Position Description: Mental Health Clinical Trainee
Division: Human Services
Reports to: Behavioral Health Clinical Director
Worksite: Behavioral Health Services
Work Hours: M-F, 8:00am- 4:30pm or as needed.
LLBO Status: Exempt

License/Certification Requirements: Valid MN Driver's License, current insurance or be insurable.
Summary:
Responsible for providing direct mental health services, including psychotherapy, with an emphasis on individuals and families, using various treatment modalities and skills to produce social, psychological, emotional, and spiritual well-being, as performed under the direct clinical supervision and in consultation with qualified Mental Health Professionals.
Education Requirements and Experience:
Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited college or university or must be a student in a bona fide field placement or internship under a program leading to completion of the requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Professional in Minnesota.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Familiarity with Leech Lake Reservation programs and Human Service agencies in surrounding communities.
- Knowledgeable and sensitive to Native American cultural values, lifestyles, and traditions.
- Computer literate w/Microsoft Suites, electronic health record programs such as Procentive, and willingness to learn.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- High degree of professional ethics.
- Native American preference.
- Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe positions.
Supervisory Duties: None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Completes initial assessment and reviews client history, including medical and family background and related environment.
- Provides comprehensive DSM standard diagnostic assessment and/or other MH diagnostic assessment type based on need and service (i.e.: brief, standard, extended, etc.).
- Complete Clinical Supervision plan with Qualified Clinical Supervisor and comply with plan requirements for supervision based on individual qualification status, program certification requirements, and update plan annually and/or as qualifications change.
- Able to work toward becoming certified to provide DC 0-3 assessments for children ages four and under.
- Administers psychometric assessment tools for use in diagnostic assessment, such as the ITSEA, MMPI, Beck Depression Inventory or other tools as indicated by clinic policy, state guidelines or evidence-based practice, when applicable.
- Designs or collaborates with mental health practitioner to write individual treatment plans, when applicable.
- Implements treatment plans, and conducts individual therapy sessions as scheduled, specific to the needs of the client.
- Documents and maintains client participation and progress using clinic EHR system (Procentive).
- Participates in client consultations, client staffing, and client discharge planning, and provides follow-up services as needed.
- Provide referrals for client services to available resource and support services within the reservation and surrounding communities.
- Research and conduct educational presentations for increased understanding and awareness of children and adult mental health issues within the community.
- Develop and participate in work groups, committees, state reviews, evidence-based and state mandated trainings and other related activities as guided by grant and/or certified program.
- Participate on multi and inter-disciplinary treatment teams, present client data, review progress, and solicit recommendations for treatment.
- Maintain consistent consultation with Traditional Cultural Advisory staff to increase understanding and sensitivity.
- Prepare reports to determine therapeutic progress.
- Meet deadlines and prioritize workload.
- Submit reports as scheduled for the various grants, when applicable.
- Maintain licensure requirements including CEUs and remain in good standing with licensing board, when applicable.
- Meet clinic identified caseload requirements and productivity goals, as identified by Clinical Director or Supervisor.
- Always maintain a high degree of confidentiality, professional ethics, and adhere to all applicable data privacy laws.
- Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
- Attend program activities outside normal working hours, as necessary.
- All other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- May be required to travel for necessary training.
- May be asked to travel to the outlying LLBO Clinics to provide Mental Health services.
- Subject to internal working conditions.
