A Brief Overview
The Pharmacy Technician 3 is a proficient technician that is accountable for assisting pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation, and distribution of medications for patient administration. The Technician 3 functions and can train in all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. All of the above assigned activities are performed under the supervision of a Pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician 3 is also responsible for performing all the functions of the Technician 1 or 2 when assigned.
What You Will Do
- For Inpatient Pharmacy Tech 3, activities include but are not limited to: o Accurately prepares non-hazardous compounded sterile products in strict accordance with USP <797> standards; performs hazardous drug compounding (USP <800>) as assigned or required by facility needs.o Accurately prepares and documents non-sterile compounded formulations following USP <795> guidelines and ensures precise beyond-use dating (BUD) o Assists in troubleshooting and resolving routine hardware and software issues for Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs)o Performs inventory replenishment and cycle counts across pharmacy and other storage areas to maintain optimal par levels and prevent stockouts of critical medications.o Orients and trains new staff on standard departmental workflows, safety protocols, and pharmacy technologyo Contributes to team problem-solving regarding immediate operational bottlenecks or distribution delays.o Other duties or responsibilities as assigned

For Outpatient Pharmacy Tech 3, activities include but are not limited to:
- Utilizes pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication and prior authorization submittal, and accurately prepares dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, pouring, labeling, and performing non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution.
- Inventory, replenish, and maintain drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets and prescription pick-up kiosks.
- Packaging and selling dangerous drugs to a patient or patient representative and answering questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
- Inventory management including par levels, order review and submission, returns processing, recall management, and outdates process oversight.
- Provides direction to technician staff on day to day operations and performs extensive trainer duties with new hires and/or technician trainees.
- Extensive buyer duties including purchasing, invoice processing, cost transferring, and specialized ordering.

For Medication History Pharmacy Tech 3, activities include but are not limited to:
- Support medication history collection process for ED and inpatient units utilizing appropriate sources and communication.
- Communicate effectively with patients during the interview and accurately record the medication history.
- Maintain open communication with nurses, patient care technicians, practitioners, and other personnel in the hospital to report important findings.
- Duties may include those addressed above in the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Essential Functions.
