American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring a minimum of 18 months of Med/Surg and/or ICU experience and an AL or compact RN license.

Float Pool position with home unit assigned on the first day of orientation — possible units include Trauma Surgery, Neuroscience, Med/Surg Oncology, Clinical Decision, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology

Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with a Level III NICU

Patient populations vary by unit and include general surgery, vascular, neuro (CVA, TBI, seizure, craniotomy), oncology, orthopedics, urology, and general med/surg conditions such as COPD, CHF, sepsis, and end-of-life care

Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit assignment

Telemetry is monitored by Telemetry Techs; RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours

12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month required

Floating to like units required (e.g., MS-to-MS, MS-to-ICU tasks, MS-to-ER holds)

No on-call requirements

EMR: Cerner (preferred)

Equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors

13-week contract

Active AL RN license or compact RN license required — can be pending at submission but an ETA must be provided

Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg and/or ICU experience required
-
Epic or Cerner EMR experience required; Cerner specifically required if experience is ICU-only

Telemetry interpretation experience preferred — candidates with tele experience should detail that experience
-
Chemotherapy administration certification preferred for oncology unit consideration
-
Trauma/surgical experience (at least 1 year) preferred for trauma surgical unit consideration
-
Skills vary by unit but commonly include IV starts, wound care, trach care, chest tubes, PEG/NGT care, foley care, central line care, and medication administration

Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible

Must have previously worked a minimum of 6 months ago (from last shift worked) if previously employed at this facility

SSN, DOB (day and month), copy of certifications, and 1 reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months required for consideration

First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided minimum experience requirements are met

Unit support includes CNAs (1:6 for vitals, ADLs, glucose checks), charge nurses, HUC/receptionist, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalists, and telemetry monitoring techs

New travelers to the facility receive 24 hours of classroom orientation followed by 24 hours of on-unit orientation; orientation for returning travelers depends on length of absence

Scheduling follows a 4-week cycle using Smart Square — no self-scheduling

One major and one minor seasonal holiday coverage expected per policy; specific holiday dates are not contractually guaranteed off prior to arrival

Blackout dates during the contract period include July 4th weekend (7/3–7/6) and Labor Day weekend (8/30–9/1) — RTO requests during blackout dates require manager approval

Up to 7 days of time off may be approved, excluding blackout dates

No scrub color requirement — any color is acceptable

Parking is available in the parking deck on levels 2 through 4 only
