American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg ICU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring 2 years of recent ICU experience and night shift availability.

Acute care setting in a Med/Surg ICU unit at a Level I Trauma Center serving as the primary tertiary hospital for the system
-
34-bed unit serving adult and pediatric patients (15+ years old) with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
-
Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1–2 (ICU), 1:4–5 (PCU), and 1:5–6 (Med/Surg)

RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
-
Equipment used includes Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry, Zoll Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser, and a full range of RT equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators; RNs must troubleshoot RT equipment

RNs are required to read and interpret their own cardiac monitor strips — no telemetry techs on unit

12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)

Every other weekend required; holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other holiday based on unit needs

Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU

Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Required certifications (must be active, not pending): BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required

Ability to read and interpret cardiac monitor strips required

Driver's license required for consideration

2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)

Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year — candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered

Unit is fast-paced with volume fluctuation; successful candidates demonstrate critical thinking, a positive attitude, and the ability to collaborate with attendings, fellows, and residents

Charge nurse is present on each shift and will attend RRTs and Codes; charge nurse does take an assignment
-
Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio
-
2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided; a pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the first Friday of orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass

Scheduling is manager-directed based on unit needs; self-scheduling is not available

Scrub color: Navy Blue

Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas

RTO requests must be submitted upfront; 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract — additional RTO will not be approved

An interview with unit leaders is required as part of the selection process
