Purchasing Manager
A growing distributor/manufacturer located in Elgin is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead and oversee all purchasing and procurement activities. This full-time position is responsible for developing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, overseeing inventory levels, and ensuring the timely procurement of raw materials, stocked items, and non-stock items. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, negotiation, and analytical skills with a proven track record in manufacturing and/or distribution. Compensation is based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day purchasing and procurement functions.
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies to optimize cost, quality, and supplier performance.
- Prepare, review, and approve purchase requisitions and purchase orders for goods, services, and supplies.
- Source and evaluate new suppliers through market research, manufacturers, distributors, and industry resources.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and payment terms with vendors.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while monitoring supplier performance.
- Forecast purchasing requirements and maintain appropriate inventory levels to support production and customer demand.
- Collaborate with operations, production, sales, and warehouse teams to ensure purchasing activities align with business objectives.
- Monitor inventory trends and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve inventory turnover.
- Analyze purchasing data and prepare reports on spending, supplier performance, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procurement best practices.
- Identify and implement continuous process improvements within the purchasing department.
- Train, mentor, and supervise purchasing staff as the department grows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of purchasing or procurement experience, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of purchasing, inventory control, and supply chain management principles.
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Advanced organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
