Medical Assistant

We are looking for a caring, motivated, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to become an integral part of our growing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships with patients, educating others, and delivering an exceptional patient experience from the first phone call through long-term follow-up.
Position Summary
You will be responsible for creating a positive experience from the moment a patient calls or walks through our doors. This position combines front-office responsibilities with patient communication, scheduling, administrative support, and helping patients navigate their dry eye care journey.
The ideal candidate is someone who genuinely enjoys working with people, is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable in a small, specialty healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
Patient Experience
- Greet patients warmly and professionally.
- Answer incoming phone calls, texts, and patient inquiries.
- Create a welcoming, personalized experience for every patient.
- Communicate with patients regarding appointments, new patient forms, and follow ups.
- Assist patients with questions and direct clinical questions to the doctor when appropriate.
- Follow up with patients before, after visits and treatments as needed.
Scheduling & Front Office
- Schedule new and returning patient appointments.
- Coordinate consultations, follow-ups, and treatment appointments.
- Confirm upcoming appointments.
- Manage cancellations and rescheduling.
- Maintain an organized and efficient front desk.
- Check patients in and out.
Patient Accounts
- Collect payments and provide receipts.
- Review fees and payment policies with patients.
- Maintain accurate patient information.
- Assist with basic billing and account questions.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
Administrative Support
- Enter and update patient information in the EHR.
- Prepare charts and paperwork for upcoming appointments.
- Assist with referrals and outside-provider communication.
- Maintain office supplies and assist with inventory.
- Follow all opening and closing procedures.
Clinical Support
- Prep exam and treatment rooms
- Sanitize all medical equipment before and at the end of the day
- Be able to fill out prior authorizations and review prescription eye drops
- Assist with patient education on dry eye diagnostic testing and procedures, including:
- Diagnostic Testing:
- Schirmer’s Test
- InflammaDry MMP9 Test
- Meibography
- Lissamine and Fluorescein Evaluation
- Tear Break Up Time
- Corneal Sensitivity Testing
- Eyelid Evaluation for Demodex build up and blink rate and function
- Treatment Procedures:
- Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
- Meibomian gland expression with forceps
- Red light therapy
- Punctal plug procedures - LacriFill
- Eyelid Cleaning - Blephex and Rinsada
- Scleral lens education
- Amniotic Membrane
- Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Eye drops
- Assist patients after Dry Eye evaluations and treatment with post-care, including:
- Providing a summary of treatment recommendations by the doctor
- Be familiar with products to dispense after their visit which include:
- Lubricating eye drops
- Heated Eye Compress
- Safe non-toxic cosmetic products
- Eyelid Hygiene products
- Dry Eye Supplements
- Dry Eye Glasses
- Have general knowledge of prescription eye drops commonly used for Dry Eyes:
- Cyclosporines: Restasis, Cequa, Vevye
- Neuromodulators: Tyrvya, Tryptyr
- Anti-Inflammatories: Xiidra, Steroids, PRP
- Lubricants: Miebo, Ivizia
