Seasonal Editorial Designer / In-Design Partnership at Martha’s Vineyard
Partnership in Creating the Martha’s Vineyard Holiday Catalog
Working Project Dates: September 1st – November 7th with most work completed in the last four weeks of the project. Estimated 125 hours of work.
This design project partnership requires more than just “someone who knows InDesign.” The catalog has become one of the biggest representations of the store every year. It is part sales catalog, part editorial piece, part storytelling, and part brand/employee spotlight.
Because of that, the ideal person is someone with a specific mix of skills in design and storytelling, with a passion for good food. Main things we are prioritizing for this position are:
- Very strong Adobe InDesign skills (most important)
- Experience with editorial or print layout
- Strong eye for typography and organization
- Working off of pre-established layout
- Comfortable editing and refining copy, not just placing text into boxes
- Good communicator and collaborative to work with in person
- Able to handle lots of moving pieces and last-minute changes without getting overwhelmed
- Detail-oriented and organized with large multi-page documents
Our catalog process is incredibly collaborative and ever-changing up until the final moments before sending to print. We need someone that can work here at the store during the duration of the project to review ideas and make "live" updates.
The types of people that could be a good fit:
- Former magazine/newspaper layout designers
- Experienced print or editorial designers
- Semi-retired creatives looking for recurring seasonal work
- Local freelancers who want a long-term relationship instead of one-off projects
We require portfolio examples such as:
- Catalogs
- Magazines
- Editorial spreads
- Print publications
- Any long-form layout work
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
