Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of an approved nursing program for registered nurses
- Must possess a current license as a registered nurse (RN) in the state of Wisconsin
- Experience or training in geriatric or long-term care nursing is preferred
- Must be currently trained in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (CPR and AED)
- Good communication and management skills
- Must have an acceptable criminal background check
Reports To:
The RN is directly responsible to the Director of Nursing. The RN is responsible for supervising the nursing assistants and LPN’s.
Essential Job Functions:
Functions as a team leader on assigned units guiding and directing the delivery of nursing care by non-professionals and LPNs. Adheres to the Board of Nursing Standards of Practice for RNs. Performs all job functions in accordance with State and Federal Regulations.
Specific Job Duties:
Assesses resident needs:
- Collects data and records observations/cares given according to the established protocol.
- Reports changes in resident physical/mental conditions to the Nurse Managers and physicians, updates families and documents such.
- Consults with Nurse Manager and/or physicians regarding resident needs.
- Assists LPN with resident concerns and assessments and documents these assessments as indicated.
- Accompanies physicians on their rounds when needed, providing updates on resident conditions.
Assists in the planning and evaluation of nursing care:
- Assists with the development and revision of nursing care plans.
- Responsible for the accurate transcription of physician orders.
- Participates in various nursing and department planning committees as appropriate.
- Participates in Quality Assurance audits and peer reviews as indicated.
Implements basic nursing care based on individual care plans:
- Guides, directs, and supervises nursing care given by nursing assistants and practical nurses.
- Functions as a team leader on assigned wing.
- Administers unit dose medication and treatments per physician orders.
- Reviews resident behaviors and participates in behavior intervention management as necessary.
- Assists residents in social adjustments encouraging independence when possible.
- Encourages and assists residents in maintaining family, community, and peer relationships.
- Assists with admissions and discharges as appropriate.
- Uses proper body mechanics in completing transfers and lifting as required.
- Maintains records in accordance with facility policies and State/ Federal regulations.
- Delegates tasks as appropriate, follows through making sure tasks are completed. Documents as indicated.
Assists in maintaining a safe therapeutic environment:
- Monitors for fire/safety hazards and assists with investigative processes and corrective actions.
- Participates in fire and disaster drills.
- Assures standard precautions and infection control practices are consistently used.
- Ensures the Nursing team maintains privacy and resident rights at all times.
- Reports any allegations of suspected verbal or physical abuse, neglect, and/or misappropriation to supervisor immediately.
- Conducts investigations pertaining to potential Vulnerable Adult violations and notifies the Common Entry Point in accordance with the Vulnerable Adult Act.
- Maintains a cooperative working attitude with co-workers, supervisors and other departments.
- Communicates all resident and/or staff issues that may directly impact the nursing department/facility to Director of Nursing/ Designee.
- Performs related duties as required by the supervisor in conformance with Christian Community Homes and Services Policies and Procedures.
Maintains job knowledge/education:
- Participates in education programs to maintain competence and satisfactory job performance.
- Attends scheduled training seminars, meetings, and inservices as appropriate.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current trends and new developments in nursing.
- Participates as a member of facility committees as requested.
- Read all new facility policies and procedures and demonstrates knowledge of the same.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to:
- Stand and walk for long periods of time
- Manually lift 30-50 pounds
