The Transmission Lineworker Training Instructor is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating training programs for apprentice and experienced transmission linemen. This position ensures that all participants gain the technical knowledge, safety awareness, and hands-on skills required to construct, maintain, and repair high-voltage transmission lines. The instructor will facilitate classroom, laboratory, and field instruction, emphasizing industry standards and best practices.
- Develop and deliver curriculum covering safety protocols, equipment operation, line construction, maintenance, and repair techniques for transmission lines.
- Conduct classroom lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and field exercises to reinforce learning objectives.
- Evaluate trainee performance through written exams, practical assessments, and on-the-job observations.
- Ensure all training activities comply with company policies and regulatory requirements, including OSHA and NESC standards.
- Maintain up-to-date training materials, incorporating new technologies, tools, and procedures as they emerge in the industry.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentices and journeymen, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with safety, operations, and human resources teams to identify training needs and measure program effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate training records and prepare reports as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a transmission lineman or in a closely related role.
- Demonstrated proficiency in transmission line construction, maintenance, and safety practices.
- Previous experience as a trainer, instructor, or mentor strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and at heights.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and ability to travel as needed.
- Knowledge of OSHA, NESC, and other relevant safety regulations.
- Ability to climb poles and transmission towers, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Comfortable working in all types of weather conditions and in elevated work environments.
Ability to stand, walk, and instruct for extended periods.
